About The Role
In order to facilitate the requirement for 50 gigawatts of renewable energy to be online by 2030, the electricity transmission market will see unprecedented growth.
For Morrison Energy Services this means there are many high voltage overhead line and substation projects coming to market, both new build and upgrading of existing infrastructure. To meet this demand, our business needs to grow across the board and specifically within our bidding department.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Estimator to join our growing team. Previous experience in the electricity transmission industry is not required. In this role you will be working on tenders for HV substation works (M+E and civils), responsible for successfully securing new contracts for the business to deliver.
As Senior Estimator your duties & responsibilities will be:
1. Mentoring other estimators within the department
2. Providing the line management function for estimators
3. Understanding the contents of the tender documentation (tender timescales, expected submission documents/responses, contract information, project scope, site & works information)
4. Project risk identification
5. Assisting the bids manager in the preparation of the kick off meeting and bids programme
6. Working with procurement and commercial departments to prepare supply chain request for quotation information packs
7. Ensuring the project solution is understood as it is built up during the tender phase, and challenging it where necessary
8. Prepare for and chair meetings to identify project risks and discuss required project management levels with internal stakeholders
9. Analysis of supply chain quotations, benchmarking of project costs and testing of proposed productivity rates
10. Preparation of the tender price in Microsoft Excel using supply chain quotations and applying internal plant and people rates to programmes of work / activity schedules
11. Prepare for and chair tender price review meetings with senior management and other internal stakeholders
12. Prepare the client pricing documents for submission (including required risk / contractual information)
13. Where required, assist in the preparation and delivery of post-submission presentations to the client and/or attend negotiation meetings
14. Save, document and organise important tender pricing communications/information as per the tender folder structure
15. Establish and maintain professional/effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
16. Prepare and chair pricing handover meetings on successful bids
17. Identify, communicate and implement ideas for continual improvement within the tender process
18. Work within company policies and procedures
19. Carry out any other duties as and when necessary to meet the varying demands of the business and client requirements
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
20. Minimum 3 years previous experience in an infrastructure estimating role (essential) or substation estimating role (desirable)
21. Mathematical competence
22. Good Microsoft Excel skills
23. Competent in other standard Microsoft software
24. Confident in written and verbal communication with internal/external stakeholders including with senior roles
25. Basic understanding of engineering/construction technology and terminology
26. Ability to read and understand engineering specifications and drawings
27. Basic understanding of contractual terminology
28. Mathematics and English GCSE or equivalent
29. Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
30. Flexibility in terms of working hours
