As an Usher/Admin Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in court proceedings, providing vital support to court users and the judiciary. Your responsibilities include administrative support and delivering excellent customer service.

Your role

1. Balance usher and administrative duties, working where needed.
2. Serve as the first point of contact for court users, including the judiciary and administrative staff.
3. Meet members of the public, including vulnerable witnesses and legal representatives; prepare court rooms, complete documentation, and ensure smooth court operations.
4. Perform general clerical tasks to support HMCTS.
5. Work within a team with management support and manage your own time effectively.


Your skills and experience

* Possess strong communication skills with a friendly, approachable manner to assist court users confidently.
* Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and organize your own workload.
* Comfortable with IT and attentive to detail to ensure accuracy in court documents; adaptable to new software.
* Provide help and reassurance professionally, even in challenging situations.

This operational role is customer-facing and requires office-based work to serve the public.

Standard hours are 37 per week. HMCTS supports part-time, flexible, and job-sharing arrangements, subject to role and business needs.

Part-time hours are considered, with a minimum of 3 days (22.5 hours) per week.


Travel and location

Occasional travel to other courts in the region may be required.

Appointments will be made based on location preferences, with a reserve list maintained for 12 months for each location.


Additional information

Interviews are primarily in person, with virtual options only in exceptional circumstances. From 4 April 2024, visa sponsorship may have restrictions based on salary thresholds. Successful applicants must have the right to work in the UK and the Civil Service.
