International Tax Manager – London (12-14 month FTC) The role will jointly report to the EMEA Head of Tax based in Paris and the Head of UK Finance. The role is based in London with the possibility of working remotely 2 days per week, involves managing one person in London and ongoing cooperation with the Paris-based team. The International Tax Manager will be responsible for Tax Consulting and Tax Compliance for all UK, UAE and Irish entities and covers both of our Financial Advisory and Asset Management businesses. We’ll trust you to: Corporation Tax: oversee Lazard's CT obligations, ensuring efficient management and preparation of annual tax computations in Alphatax Tax Accounting: oversee preparation of the tax figures in both annual accounts, and annual and quarterly New York Lazard Group returns (actual and forecasts) requiring: Understanding of accounting for corporation tax, deferred tax accounting, UK GAAP to US GAAP adjustments and disclosure requirements in UK statutory accounts Completion of One Source tax package for New York Communication with statutory auditors and New York Tax Department VAT: Ensures Lazard fulfils its VAT obligations and manages VAT affairs efficiently, mainly overseeing key deliverables such as: Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns, including identification of reverse charge items Calculation of Annual Adjustment and annual partial exemption percentages Calculation of annual Capital Goods adjustment Payroll Related Duties: PAYE Settlement Agreement – oversight of preparation and submission of the annual PSA returns for benefits provided to staff Form 42 – review of the annual Form 42 for share based remuneration, prepared by HR Legislation, regulation, governance, and standards: Ensuring Tax Governance meets required standards Tracking changes in tax laws and practice, analysing and communicating implications to management and recommending responses Tax Consulting: the role will participate (with Lazard’s Tax Advisors where necessary) in the provision of tax advice, in studies or projects in the following areas: Corporate : Review of Transfer Pricing requirements including review of Transfer Pricing documentation and of inter-company Agreements General corporation tax advice Financial Advisory : Update of Transfer Pricing Master File and Local File for the UK, UAE and Ireland Determining VAT liability of financial advisory and asset management mandates, maintaining shared deal VAT process and general VAT advice Asset Management : Participation in the documentation of the Asset Management Transfer Pricing arrangements Ad hoc project work when required, including the support to tax audits and/or discussions with HMRC within the framework of the existing partnership between HMRC and Lazard. The management of our International tax accountant, supporting them in day-to-day compliance and reporting obligations, training and upskilling them. You’ll need to have: Strong academic background, including relevant degree, with extensive experience in relevant field(s) Qualified chartered accountant specialising in tax ideally a qualified tax professional (eg. CTA) with strong accounting background) At least eight years PQE with experience both in practice (ideally Big4) and in financial services industry Excellent knowledge of UK corporation tax, VAT and other UK taxes (e.g. withholding taxes, PAYE) Experience managing tax compliance across different EMEA regions Experience with international tax matters such as transfer pricing, permanent establishments, withholding tax etc. Strong understanding of tax accounting for financial reporting purposes Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment and liaise easily with remote teams, in particular the rest of the European Tax Team (10 people), NY tax team (4 key people) and the EMEA Finance Team based in Paris Ability to communicate confidently with senior members of the firm Good managerial skills and the desire to promote internally both the position and the team. Intellectually strong, highly numerate Excellent analytical, problem solving and commercial skills PC literate with excellent Microsoft Excel skills Good interpersonal and communication skills – articulate and confident.
