Position: Food Security Assistant (Summer Student) Location: South Surrey, BC Hours: 35 hrs/week (8-week contract) Salary: $17.85/hour Start Date: July 7, 2025 We are looking for a Food Security Assistant to join our Sources Food Security team! This person will assist with Sources’ food waste recovery and food insecurity programs, with a focus on community engagement and education, community event participation, as well as program and volunteer coordination. This individual must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a class 5 drivers’ license with a clean driving record, be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and possess a desire to address the root causes of food insecurity in our communities. This is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position. The applicant must meet all eligibility criteria: Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. Description of Position: Reporting to: Food Security Program Manager Responsibilities: Provide front-line client service by working with users of Sources Food Banks. Assume a leadership role with Sources’ Community Harvest Program, working with local homeowners and farmers to redirect excess produce to community meal programs, and providing training and support to volunteers of all ages. Assist with the development and implementation of workshops to engage community members learning about food waste and ways to negate. Assist with the coordination of Sources’ participation in community events with a focus on food waste recovery and volunteer youth engagement.
