Primary Integrated Community Services are supporting Bassetlaw Hospice with the recruitment for the Healthcare Assistant (Inpatient) role at Band 3.
Role Purpose
Under the direction of a registered professional, participate in the development and delivery of high-quality, compassionate patient care through involvement in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
Role Context
This role requires the ability to work effectively under the direction and leadership of registered professionals, supporting people with palliative and end-of-life care needs. The post holder will provide safe, person-centred care to patients within the inpatient unit at Bassetlaw Hospice, ensuring dignity, respect, and comfort at all times.

Bassetlaw Hospice offers palliative care for people aged 18 and over with cancer and other progressive, life-limiting conditions, aiming to enhance quality of life for patients and their families. Located in Redford, the hospice provides integrated care through a support and well-being centre, day services, and an inpatient unit, all supported by a dedicated team on the local charity. Services include symptom management, holistic and complementary therapies, psychological support, and activities like crafts and gardening, alongside home care and bereavement support.
Main duties of the job
Key Accountabilities – Clinical Practice
* Assist with all activities of daily living, addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients.
* Undertake, record and report clinical observations as directed by registered professionals.
* Support treatment and activities for patients within the inpatient environment.
* Maintain accurate, timely and relevant clinical records, both written and electronic.
* Promote maximum independence and dignity for patients.
* To help patients achieve reasonable and achievable goals.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties within the scope of the role.
Performance Measures
* Care delivered in accordance with hospice policies, procedures, and CQC standards.
* Accurate and timely record-keeping.
* Adherence to infection prevention and control and safeguarding requirements.
Experience
* Must have experience in care. Palliative experience is desirable.
Job responsibilities
Job Description: Healthcare Assistant (Inpatient) – Band 3 equivalent. Reports to Team Leader. Band 3 equivalent; unsocial hour supplements available.
Requirements and qualifications
* Experience in care (priority). Palliative care experience desirable.
* Enhanced DBS check on recruitment and periodically thereafter.
* All employees must follow hospice infection prevention and control procedures and undertake mandatory training.

* Data quality and accurate, timely record-keeping is essential for safe care delivery and decision-making.
* Communication: communicate sensitively and effectively with patients and families, with tact, reassurance and compassion.
* Analytical and judgement skills: recognise variances in a patient’s condition and report promptly to a registered professional.
* Planning and organisational skills: organise day-to-day activities to deliver care within patient care plans.
* Physical and emotional effort: frequent moderate physical effort and exposure to distressing end-of-life care scenarios.
Safeguarding, DBS, and related policies
All staff are responsible for ensuring that risks of harm to children and vulnerable adults are minimised. Concerns must be addressed in line with hospice safeguarding policies and local multi-agency procedures. This role requires an enhanced DBS check at recruitment and periodically thereafter.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such a disclosure check will be submitted to the DBS.
