Overview
Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting hydropower projects. We are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This role can be based anywhere in the UK.
Responsibilities
* Lead the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines.
* Perform design, model and analyse electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards.
* Take line management responsibility for some team members, support business growth and take ownership of project deliverables.
* Collaborate with civil, mechanical and other engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated project design.
* Contribute across all project stages from feasibility studies and concept design to construction and commissioning.
* Engage with the design and delivery of grid upgrade projects including new transmission lines and substations where opportunities arise.
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
* Support a growing transmission and distribution business as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
Qualifications
* Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the IET, or working towards.
* Experience with large rotating machines (generators or motors). Specific experience in hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is highly desirable but not essential. Electrical experience in other sectors (especially Energy and Water) is advantageous.
* Proficient in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents, including single line diagrams, block cable diagrams, calculations for equipment sizing and fault ratings, load schedules, specifications and reports. Familiar with collaborative reviews and design solutions.
* Strong skills in presenting technical information to clients and design engineers; active participation in collaborative design discussions and technical workshops.
