The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high‑quality nursing care, including both chronic disease management and treatment room services.</p><p>The Drayton Surgery is a well‑established, forward‑thinking GP practice located in Drayton, North Portsmouth, with a second site in Cosham. We have a strong reputation for delivering high‑quality patient care and offer a full range of NHS and enhanced services.</p><p>We serve a growing patient population of approximately 24,000 patients across both sites. Our multidisciplinary team includes GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants (HCAs), and Phlebotomists, all working together in a supportive and collaborative environment.</p><h3>Benefits</h3><p>We offer a supportive working environment alongside a competitive benefits package, including:</p><ul><li>NHS Pension Scheme (where eligible)</li><li>Opportunities for continued professional development and training</li><li>Supportive and friendly multidisciplinary team environment</li></ul><p>We are committed to supporting our staffs wellbeing and professional growth.</p><h3>Main Duties of the Job</h3><ul><li>Deliver high standards of nursing care as part of a multidisciplinary team</li><li>Provide treatment room services, including wound care and minor procedures</li><li>Undertake chronic disease management (e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes)</li><li>Administer routine childhood, adult, and travel immunisations</li><li>Carry out cervical screening (smears)</li><li>Contribute to health promotion and preventative care initiatives</li></ul><h3>Clinical Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Chronic disease management, including asthma, COPD, and diabetes</li><li>Cervical cytology (HPV screening)</li><li>Wound care, leg ulcer management, and Doppler assessments</li><li>Venepuncture and phlebotomy</li><li>ECG recording</li><li>New patient health checks and urinalysis</li><li>Suture and clip removal</li><li>Administration of injectable medications (e.g. B12, Depo, Nebido, Clexane, Zoladex)</li><li>Delivery of routine and childhood immunisations (including flu, shingles, pneumococcal vaccines)</li><li>Requesting basic pathology tests (e.g. urine cultures, swabs)</li><li>Working to agreed clinical protocols and escalating to GPs where appropriate</li></ul><h3>Additional Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Maintain clinical rooms, ensuring appropriate stock levels and cleanliness</li><li>Ensure compliance with cold chain processes for vaccinesUndertake regular checks of emergency equipment</li><li>Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records</li><li>Report risks, incidents, or concerns to senior staff</li><li>Participate in practice meetings, training, and continuous professional development</li><li>Support administrative systems within the practice</li><li>Undertake home or care home visits where required (e.g. vaccination delivery)</li></ul><h3>Person Specification - Essential</h3><ul><li>Participation in training and professional development is essential</li><li>Flexibility to cover both practice sites will be required</li><li>Minimum of 3 years experience working within a nursing team</li><li>Previous experience working in a GP practice</li><li>Registered Nurse with the NMC</li><li>Qualified in giving Childhood and routine vaccinations</li><li>Qualified as a cervical Smear taker</li><li>Qualified in Leg Ulcer and Doppler assessment</li></ul><h3>Person Specification - Desirable</h3><ul><li>Experience using SystmOne or other clinical IT systems</li><li>Qualification or experience in chronic disease management (asthma, COPD, diabetes)</li><li>Travel vaccination qualification</li></ul><h3>Qualifications - Essential</h3><ul><li>Registered Nurse with the NMC</li><li>Qualified in giving Childhood and routine vaccinations</li><li>Qualified as a cervical Smear taker</li><li>Qualified in Leg Ulcer and Doppler assessment</li></ul><h3>Qualifications - Desirable</h3><ul><li>Qualification or experience in chronic disease management (asthma, COPD, diabetes)</li><li>Travel vaccination qualification</li></ul><h3>Disclosure and Barring Service Check</h3><p>This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.</p><h3>UK Registration</h3><p>Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
