Product Design Engineering Specialist - Mechanical CAD (Creo)
Location: Darlington (Hybrid - 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)

We are currently recruiting two Product Design Engineering Specialists to support our clients ongoing engineering programmes at a major manufacturing site in Darlington. This is a hybrid initial 6 month temporary contract role, offering a strong blend of hands-on engineering ownership and cross-functional collaboration.
The Role
You will lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems, taking ownership from concept through to detailed design and validation. This is a product-focused role requiring strong CAD capability and the ability to work independently with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier stakeholders.
You'll be responsible for developing optimized mechanical designs that balance performance, cost, weight, durability, manufacturability, and serviceability, while clearly communicating design intent through structured design reviews.
Key Responsibilities
Lead component or subsystem design concept selection, optimisation, and specification
Produce high-quality 3D CAD models and drawings using Creo
Own design decision making and present solutions through formal design review packages
Work closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, suppliers, and validation
Apply engineering tools and processes such as iDFMEA, GD&T, DVA, FEA (ANSYS) where required
Support product issue resolution using structured problem-solving methods
Provide technical leadership on assigned components or smaller projectsEssential Skills & Experience
Strong experience in mechanical product design and development
Creo CAD modelling experience (essential)
Ownership of engine systems or mechanical components
Experience working independently with internal and external stakeholders
Mechanical component or system analysis experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Proven background operating at Senior / Lead Engineer levelDesirable
Experience with Windchill PLM
Background in internal combustion engine (ICE) component design
Experience working within regulated or high-quality manufacturing environmentsWhat's on Offer
