Overview

Exciting Opportunity: Band 5 Occupational Therapist – Intensive Rehabilitation Service (IRS)

Are you a newly qualified or early-career Occupational Therapist with a passion for physical rehabilitation? This role within NELFT’s Intensive Rehabilitation Service offers a supportive and dynamic environment to develop clinical skills. The IRS is a multidisciplinary community team comprising Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistants, delivering innovative rehabilitation in patients’ homes to facilitate early supported discharges from hospital.

Working closely with inpatient rehabilitation services and acute care partners, the IRS delivers intensive, person-centred rehabilitation programmes in the community. This is a fast-paced, collaborative setting where your contribution will impact patient outcomes. The team is based in the community with interface to other NELFT services and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery 365 days per year.


Responsibilities

* Work as part of the Intensive Rehabilitation service in the community, contributing to specialist, comprehensive assessments and the formulation of treatment plans based on clinical findings and reasoning.
* Assess occupational therapy needs of a defined patient group (including chronic, acute and palliative care within own competencies) and recognise personal limitations, seeking advice when necessary.
* Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for patients to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of care.
* Select and apply occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits to enable participation in productivity, self-care and leisure.
* Provide patients and relatives with information and education to support meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence and quality of life.
* Communicate effectively within a multi-professional team to support integrated care and service delivery.


Requirements and Qualifications

* Band 5 Occupational Therapist, newly qualified or early-career, with a passion for physical rehabilitation.
* Good knowledge of current OT best practice and ability to work as an effective team member across a multi-professional team.
* Excellent communication skills and a commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.
* Willingness to work flexibly to assist in effective and efficient delivery of the service.
* Probationary period applies to this post (internal applicants may be exempt as described in the job posting).


Induction, Training and Support

* Regular clinical and managerial supervision.
* In-service training, including journal club, with ongoing training and development opportunities.
* Induction for new starters, including mandatory training and system training, held at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex, with a two-week comprehensive induction.


Additional Information

* High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London: 15% of basic salary (minimum £4,714 to maximum £5,941 per annum, pro rata for part-time).
