We are recruiting to a 12-month fixed-term maternity leave position (commencing in January 2026) for the Band 8a Clinical Lead Dietitian at the Royal London Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian to lead the acute adult dietetic team, overseeing specialist medicine, surgery, and intestinal failure dietetic services. You will be responsible for the management of all Type 2 and Type 3 inpatients and outpatients requiring home parenteral nutrition.

You will be joining a friendly, enthusiastic and supportive team of Dietitians who cover a range of specialist clinical areas.

To provide clinical and site leadership for the Nutrition and Dietetic team at The Royal London Hospital, within Barts Health NHS Trust.

To be responsible for the coordination, development, and delivery of the dietetic service on the Royal London site. This includes the day-to-day operational, managerial, clinical, and professional delivery of the service. To act as an expert Dietetic Practitioner and clinical lead for Intestinal Failure, and to drive service transformation, with an emphasis on developing services that are fit for the future and aligned with Trust and service objectives.

The Royal London Hospital is an accredited Intestinal Failure Centre and part of the Central London Intestinal Failure Partnership (CLIP) - a collaboration between Barts Health, Guy's and St Thomas', and University College London Hospitals.


Main duties of the job

The aim of this role is to deliver specialist clinical expertise in Intestinal Failure (IF). This position will provide strategic, day-to-day operational leadership and specialist input to enhance the acute dietetic service across the surgical, IF and specialist medicine dietetic teams.

As the lead Dietitian for IF you will be responsible for managing complex type 2/3 IF patients and will provide clinical and professional leadership for complex nutritional support at the Royal London Hospital. You will be expected to function with a high degree of autonomy providing expert clinical service to the IF team at Royal London Hospital and the Central London IF Network (CLIP).

The post holder will work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead Dietitian responsible for critical care, neuro, trauma, and stroke services to ensure cohesive clinical leadership across specialties.

The post holder will have expert knowledge and skills to be able to support and deliver QI projects across dietetics, develop networked relationships in trust and beyond, support the delivery of teaching and training, and work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead Therapists at the Royal London Hospital.

Person Specification


Experience

* oExtensive clinical experience in Intestinal Failure including type 2/3 cases, complex Nutrition Support, and gastrointestinal surgery.
* oExperience in managing the complexities associated with discharging patients on home parenteral nutrition
* oExperience of managing a team and developing senior and junior staff, students and assistants
* oInvolvement in relevant professional special interest groups/ Clinical Excellence Networks
* oExperience of managing a budget


Skills

* oHigh-level leadership, influencing, negotiation and problem-solving skills
* oExcellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences, including chairing of meetings
* oAble to communicate with patients in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment and procedures


Knowledge

* oKnowledge of national polices, evidence and current research in area of specialism
* oKnowledge of cultural and linguistic issues in working with diverse and multi-cultural caseload
* oUnderstanding of importance of strong and visible leadership in influencing patient outcomes


Qualifications

* oDiploma or Degree in Dietetics
* oHCPC registration
* oEvidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at post graduate course/training relevant to clinical specialty
* oNon-medical prescriber
* oPost graduate formal qualifications relevant to clinical specialty
