Hours: Full Time

To commence: 1st September 2026

The Headteacher and Governors of Kitchener Primary School are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and reflective Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our wonderful team and help us provide the very best for our incredible children.

This is a genuine opportunity to be part of a happy, rapidly improving school where your contribution will make a real difference every day. At Kitchener, diversity, identity, equality and community are not just words we use — they are values we live through our practice, relationships and curriculum every single day.

Kitchener is a large, vibrant inner-city school in the heart of Cardiff, serving the communities of Riverside, Canton and Leckwith. We have over 460 pupils from more than 40 ethnic groups, with over 90% of our children using English as an additional language. Most of our pupils are of Bangladeshi heritage, and many begin school with little or no English.

Our school is alive with culture, language and joy. We see our diversity as our strength, and we are proud of the inclusive, outward-looking environment we have created. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Our HLTA must be someone who understands that the children in front of them matter most — and who is able to respond to their needs using the curriculum we have planned for our children.

We are looking for someone who will bring a strong classroom presence, build excellent relationships with children, staff and parents, and contribute positively to the culture of the school. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, adaptable, professional and confident in taking direction from SLT. They will be someone who embraces change, supports others positively and helps maintain a calm, purposeful and solution-focused working environment.

We want someone who:

•Builds strong, respectful and professional relationships with children, families and colleagues.

•Has a confident presence in the classroom and contributes positively to learning.

•Teaches responsively, using the curriculum set by the school and adapting to the needs of the children in front of them.

•Works well under the direction of class teacher and SLT and can respond positively to changing priorities.

•Brings enthusiasm, flexibility and a “can do” attitude to every day.

•Contributes to a positive staff culture and supports teamwork.

•Understands the importance of inclusion, equality and high expectations for all pupils.

•Is committed to supporting children’s learning, wellbeing and progress.

•Can support pupils effectively in a richly diverse, EAL-friendly environment.

•Is resilient, reflective and committed to professional growth.

What we offer in return:

• Pupils who are enthusiastic, affectionate, respectful and eager to learn.

• A school culture that values difference and celebrates every individual.

• High-quality, tailored professional development.

• A leadership team and Governing Body committed to growth and support.

• Real investment in your development as a practitioner.

• The opportunity to work in a school where relationships and belonging are at the heart of everything we do.

At Kitchener, we are not looking for someone to just “fit in” — we are looking for someone who wants to make a difference and join a team that is as passionate about equity, excellence and children’s success as we are.

If you are ready to be part of something special, we would love to hear from you, please apply!
