Reports to: Speech and Language Therapist (SLT)
We are looking for a dynamic speech and language therapy assistant to work within our very exciting Transcend team. You will be supported by 2 very senior therapists and work across a multidisciplinary team with various partners, including Merseycare and LUFHT.
We are looking for someone who can support trans and non-binary individuals, bringing enthusiasm and motivation to a passionate team.
The role works largely remotely but also requires a small amount of hybrid work as necessary.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Support qualified SLTs in the delivery of therapy and care to trans-gender and non-binary service users.
* Deliver specified SLT interventions under the supervision of an SLT, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and affirming therapeutic environment.
* Carry out delegated speech and language therapy programmes for individuals or groups, as planned by the supervising SLT.
* Adapt therapy materials as instructed to meet the needs of service users.
* Observe and report service users' responses to therapy or interventions to the supervising SLT, using judgment on when to elevate or seek support.
* Communicate with service users using empathy, reassurance, and tact, overcoming barriers related to speech and language.
* Support service users in understanding communication and voice goals in gender-affirming care and provide information about SLT approaches for gender-affirming voice.
* Be flexible in working remotely and in clinic locations when indicated.
* Participate in relevant multidisciplinary discussions, respecting confidentiality.
* Maintain accurate records of all work carried out in line with service policies and ensure data protection.
* Support caseload management and organize therapy appointments and assist with the preparation of resources for sessions.
* Receive regular support and supervision, recognising the boundaries of own role and expertise.
