Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

A secondary school in Runcorn is seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their supportive team. This is a full-time, permanent role working with students aged 11–16 (Years 7–11) who have a range of complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will support the teaching and learning of students with complex SEND across the school. They will be responsible for delivering small group interventions, supporting students on a one-to-one basis, and occasionally covering whole classes. Working closely with teaching staff, the SENCO, and other professionals, the HLTA will help to ensure that every student is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential in a safe, nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide tailored support to students with a variety of complex SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties
* Plan, deliver and evaluate small group and one-to-one interventions
* Assist in adapting resources and lessons to meet individual learning needs
* Cover classes when required, ensuring continuity of learning
* Monitor and report on student progress, contributing to review meetings and EHCP planning
* Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports student confidence, independence, and resilience
Person Specification:
The school is looking for someone who is:
* Qualified to HLTA level or holds an equivalent Level 4 qualification or higher
* Experienced in working with secondary-aged students, particularly those with SEND
* Knowledgeable about effective SEND strategies and interventions
* A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
* Patient, empathetic, and consistent in their approach to behaviour and learning support
* Organised, adaptable, and able to use initiative within a team environment
* Committed to the safeguarding and well-being of all students

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
