The Role
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Engineer Manager to lead our multi disciplined labour function. This is a key role in ensuring that client requests are managed efficiently, engineers are managed effectively, and all planned and reactive work is tracked and delivered through our CAFM system with accuracy and reported back to our clients efficiently.
As the Engineer Manager, you will oversee a busy, fast-paced helpdesk team, manage the daily flow of work orders, and ensuring we deliver service excellence.
A successful candidate in this role needs hands-on technical knowledge, strong leadership skills, and commercial awareness. The ability to move between plantroom detail and high-level commercial discussion.
Experience & Qualifications
Practical Experience - 7+ Years in M&E Maintenance or Construction
Mechanical & Electrical knowledge – solid understanding of HVAC, pumps, boilers, CHP, heat exchangers, controls, and electrical systems.
Heat networks & district energy – design, commissioning, operations, and fault-finding. Awareness of legislation, metering, and efficiency improvements.
Maintenance planning – setting up PPM schedules, asset registers, lifecycle planning, and reactive maintenance processes.
Project delivery – scoping works, writing technical specifications, reviewing drawings, working with consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
Compliance – health & safety (e.g. LOLER, PUWER, IOSH), F-Gas, Legionella, Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, and environmental standards.
Operational / Team Management
People leadership – experience leading multi-skilled engineers and subcontractors, handling performance management, training, and motivation.
Resource planning – scheduling labour, balancing in-house vs subcontract delivery, ensuring coverage across shifts.
Decision-making under pressure – being able to quickly assess risk and act decisively in breakdowns or outages.
Culture & standards – setting expectations for workmanship, behaviours, and customer service.
Commercial / Organisational Skills
Budgeting & cost control – managing maintenance budgets, tracking project costs, and delivering within margins.
Supplier & subcontractor management – tendering, negotiating, and monitoring KPIs/SLA compliance.
Client-facing experience – attending client meetings, presenting technical solutions in simple terms, managing expectations.
