A rare opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to lead aseptic services for NHS Borders. The post holder will be responsible for the aseptic dispensing unit at Borders General Hospital. The Pharmacy Aseptic Service is a valued service to the Borders Cancer Unit, infusion service and the wider hospital teams. The service provides bespoke chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, and parenteral nutrition to patients across the BGH site. A new modular aseptic suite will be installed later this year, presenting an opportunity to contribute to its implementation and to join the team as it enters this new phase.
You will join the Pharmacy team to organise and supervise the day-to-day running of the Aseptic Unit, work closely with the Pharmacy Cancer Team to maintain high standards, and lead on the delivery and development of training and educational programmes for Pharmacy Technicians, Support Staff and foundation year trainees, in line with national standards.
Responsibilities
* Lead day-to-day running of the aseptic unit and supervise the work of Pharmacy Technicians and Support Staff.
* Organise and supervise aseptic dispensing activities for bespoke chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, and parenteral nutrition.
* Develop and deliver training and educational programmes for Pharmacy Technicians, Support Staff and foundation year trainees, ensuring alignment with national standards.
* Ensure all procedures, policies and assessments are up-to-date and compliant with GMP under the direction of the Accountable Pharmacist / Deputy.
* Support the development of extended roles for Pharmacy Support Workers and contribute to skill-mix development for Pharmacy Technicians.
* Participate in process reviews to support patient safety improvement in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
* Contribute to the implementation of the new modular aseptic suite (when installed).
* Work as part of a team and, where required, participate in public holiday rotas and rotational weekend work.
Qualifications and experience
* GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience in pharmacy aseptic services; leadership and change management experience preferred.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
