Health & Safety Manager (HSQE)
Location - Northampton
Hours - Monday – Friday | 8:00am – 5:00pm
Salary - £50,000 – £55,000 per annum
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing organisation who are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager (HSQE) to lead and develop their Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental strategy.
This is a senior-level role, reporting directly to the Senior Management Team and Directors, with responsibility for ensuring compliance, driving continuous improvement, and embedding a strong safety culture across workshop and site-based operations.
The environment includes high-risk activities such as lifting operations, working at height, heavy plant usage and complex installation projects - making this a hands-on and highly influential position.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership
Develop, implement and continuously improve the Health & Safety Management System.
Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated regulations including:
LOLER
PUWER
CDM Regulations 2015
Work at Height Regulations 2005
COSHH Regulations 2002
Lead accident and incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
Conduct site inspections and internal audits across workshop and project sites.
Develop safe systems of work for mechanical and steel operations.
Monitor H&S KPIs and report performance to senior leadership.
Promote a proactive, positive safety culture throughout the organisation.ISO & Compliance Management
Manage and maintain the Integrated Management System (IMS) covering:
ISO 9001
ISO 14001
ISO 45001
Lead external surveillance and re-certification audits.
Conduct internal audits and management reviews.
Oversee document control and compliance records.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the business.Risk & Operational Support
Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
Maintain risk registers and ensure mitigation controls are effective.
Support planning for high-risk works including lifting and working at height.
Manage subcontractor pre-qualification and competency assessments.
Maintain COSHH assessments and related documentation.Training & Development
Identify training needs and maintain a company-wide training matrix.
Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Ensure workforce competency for high-risk activities.
Maintain up-to-date training and certification records.What They Are Looking For
Essential:
Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager or HSQE leadership role.
Experience managing ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems.
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.Desirable:
Internal or Lead Auditor qualification.
Experience within mechanical, structural steel, construction or heavy engineering environments.Personal Attributes
