An exciting role has opened up within the SPEAR3 Family to lead the development of the hardware design and its design Job Title : Chief Design Engineer – SPEAR3 Family Please note: Automatic promotion is not guaranteed Dynamic working : This large leadership role requires significant presence at UK sites (4 days average), main site is Stevenage but presence at Thurleigh, Henlow and Bolton is also required. The opportunity: As the Chief Design Engineer you’ll be responsible in the development phases for delivering a certifiable, producible oToCoQ product. You will be involved in all aspects of SPEAR3 Family development and will gain much experience relevant to Chief Engineer-type roles. Enhance your influencing skills across all levels. Ability to utilise broad technical and management skills. Additional training as necessary to build upon your existing skills and address any gaps As a member of the MA function senior leadership team (SLT) you'll be leading and encouraging participation in functional events including communications, information share, KM and continuous improvements along with undertaking the management and development of engineers within your department. This includes being responsible for headcount strategy including workload forecast and recruiting. you'll also be supporting the HR calendar including contributions, performance, development and governance. Your role will include: Definition of the system hardware design (physical) for all variants of the missile. Be fully responsible for all aspects of oToCoQ for all project delegated tasks (Task Directive). Ensuring the design meets it technical and configuration requirements, including its environment, testability, safety and reliability. Providing evidence in support of the CofD. Ensuring all design reviews are planned and completed. Ensuring all Product Phase Gates are completed and actioned. Ensuring the project NRC budget is met (missile level) and that the project UPC (Unit production costs) targets are met for each equipment. For the Task Packages you are involved with, ensure work package management techniques, bids and estimates, WLF and delegated authorities and signatories are iaw MBDA process. Ensuring the design is producible by the MBDA manufacturing facility and also Industrial Readiness of the design definition for the production launch of product. Ensuring the Design Solutions & Architectures of the variants meet the GMA and Re-Use policies. Management of the Architects and RMO’s within the MA Functional Organisation deployed to the Project. Day to day management of Project Organisational team members residing in stakeholder functions. Technical management of all team members, ensuring on time delivery of design activities in support of the project. Defining and managing the physical requirements and architecture (mechanical, electrical and Safety). Manage configuration control and flow down of requirements to equipment teams and suppliers (TRS’s, ERS’s and ICD’s). Managing Non-Conformance and Non Compliance. Decisions on the fitness for purpose of all hardware. Manages missile level design and risk reduction studies. Management of the missile level Risk and Opportunity register. The generation and maintenance of plans at all levels which will be used to monitor and report progress. Plans shall also be generated to mitigate any risks identified. Managing the development of the test equipment ensuring suitability for the manufacturing facility. Ensuring test and testability requirements are met. Managing the expectations of the Customer and Senior MBDA management.
