Lead Data Platform Engineer (DV Clearable) - Up to £140,000 + BenefitsUK (Hybrid / Secure Site)Must be eligible for DV clearance (active SC required to start)The OpportunityWe are seeking a highly capable Lead Data Platform Engineer to support a major UK Government client, leading the design and development of high-performance backend services within a secure, cloud-native environment.You will play a key role in building scalable, resilient, and low-latency data platforms, working with modern open-source and commercial technologies while driving engineering excellence across the team.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, document, and deploy backend services and platform featuresEnsure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, scalability, and availabilityContribute to story elaboration and estimation within Agile delivery teamsDeliver frequent, incremental releases to maintain delivery momentumCollaborate across cross-functional teams, fostering a shared ownership cultureBuild, optimise, and maintain CI/CD and Continuous Deployment pipelinesTake operational ownership of services, ensuring reliability and performance in productionEssential Skills & ExperienceStrong experience in Java development, including: Core JavaSpring Boot frameworksProven experience building distributed backend systemsHands-on experience with Kafka (or similar streaming platforms)Experience with Scala and Apache Spark for data processingIntegration withbackend services such as: PostgreSQLRedisS3 (or equivalent object storage)Expertise in modern engineering practices, including: Continuous deliveryClean code principlesAutomated testing & TDDCode reviews and documentationExperience working in Agile / DevOps environmentsProficiency with Git-based source control (GitHub / GitLab)Experience working with Big Data technologiesStrong hands-on experience with AWS or other public cloud platformsDesirable SkillsExperience designing and operating high-throughput, real-time data platformsFamiliarity with microservices architecturesExposure to infrastructure as code and platform engineering practicesExperience working in secure or regulated environmentsSecurity RequirementsMust currently hold SC clearanceMust be eligible and willing to obtain DV clearanceWhat's on OfferSalary up to £140,000 (depending on experience)Opportunity to lead engineering on critical national programmesWork with cutting-edge data, streaming, and cloud technologiesStrong engineering culture focused on quality and continuous improvementExcellent career progression and development opportunitiesApply NowIf you are an experienced platform engineer ready to lead the delivery of high-performance systems in a secure environment, we'd love to hear from you.Reasonable Adjustments:Respect and equality are core values to us.
