Train as a Health Visitor in Lincolnshire
Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) is seeking to recruit enthusiastic, innovative and forward‑thinking Registered Nurses or Midwives to join our Student Health Visitor training programme.
Training in Lincolnshire offers a funded route into Health Visiting. You will develop your knowledge and confidence through a balanced programme of academic learning and supervised community practice, working towards autonomous Health Visitor practice within an integrated Children’s Health team.

Main duties of the job
About the programme:
This training programme will prepare you to work as an autonomous Health Visitor within an integrated skill‑mix team. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and, ideally, relevant community experience.
Once appointed, you will be expected to apply to Sheffield Hallam University. The SCPHN (Health Visitor) Level 7 course is 50% practice and 50% theory, and you must successfully complete both elements to qualify. The course commences in September.
Applicants should be aware that this is a challenging programme and requires commitment to full‑time work and study. Placements will be located across Lincolnshire and extensive travel may be required to bases, training venues and family visits.
Team allocation will remain within the same team where training was undertaken where possible; in some circumstances this may differ, which will be made clear within any conditional and formal offers.
Post‑qualification commitment (if appointed)
* Individuals will be required to remain employed in a Children’s Services Health Visitor role for a minimum of 12 months after qualification.
* If an individual leaves employment before the end of the period, a repayment fee will be applied for the element of pay funded by the Council.
Job responsibilities
* Work under the direction of a supervising Health Visitor and a Community Practice Educator to assist in delivering an efficient and cost‑effective health service for an identified population within Lincolnshire County.
* Access all learning facilities, lectures and learning environments made available by the university and practice placement.
* Adhere to and maintain university policies and procedures.
* Assist in delivering the Healthy Child Programme 0–6 commensurate with stage of training, and upon completion of training provide clinical expert advice and guidance for own area of expertise within the 6–19 (25 SEND) Children’s Health Service.
* Focus early interventions based on timely and comprehensive assessment of a child and their family's needs.
* Provide evidence of the skills and competencies required to assess health care needs and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care relating to individuals and families.
* Undertake health assessments and child development reviews under the direction of a Health Visitor, identifying deviations from the norm and taking appropriate action.
* Utilise specialist clinical skills using evidence‑based practice to identify risks and needs in protecting children, adhere to agreed safeguarding policies and procedures, identify children in need and children in need of protection and work in partnership with all partner agencies to support families and protect children.
* Profile the health needs of an identified population, target services to meet the needs of disadvantaged groups and evaluate the outcomes of interventions.
* Support and empower individuals, families and communities to take appropriate action to influence health care and health promotion activities by means of a community development approach.
* Participate in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of child health promotion programmes in partnership with the health visiting team to promote health and wellbeing and prevent adverse effects.
* Offer support and advice to parents and carers, especially vulnerable children, utilising an early help approach and working closely with other agencies and voluntary organisations through home visiting and other interventions as required.
* Ensure the voice of the child is incorporated into all aspects of health visiting.
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and comprehensive records in accordance with LCC guidelines and NMC standards.
* Delegate and coordinate the work of skill‑mix practitioners, ensuring that delegated work is carried out correctly, safely, effectively and efficiently.
* Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
* Health and safety: take reasonable care for own safety and that of others affected by acts or omissions, cooperate with supervisory and managerial staff to ensure adherence to statutory regulations, policies, codes of practice and departmental safety procedures, and attend relevant training programmes.
