Weekend Recycling Attendant
Location: Holywood (HRC)
Hours: Weekends – Saturday 08:00-17:00 (9 hours), Sunday 10:00-16:00 (6 hours)

We’re looking for a reliable, proactive and customer-centric Weekend Recycling Attendant to join our team at the Household Recycling Centres. You’ll play a key role in keeping the site safe, clean and efficient, while helping residents recycle responsibly and in line with environmental standards.Key Responsibilities
Site Operations & Security
1. Open, close and secure the Household Recycling Centres at scheduled times as instructed by the Supervisor/Manager.
2. Control access to the site and ensure only authorised users enter.
3. Prevent illegal ormercial misuse of the site and check relevant paperwork where required.
Site Cleanliness & Maintenance
4. Keep the site, staff buildings and surrounding footpaths clean, tidy and safe at all times.
5. Carry out cleansing schedules and ensure waste is stored appropriately.
6. Monitor stock levels of cleaning materials and equipment, reporting needs to the Supervisor.
7. Distribute salt/grit during frost, ice or snow to maintain safe access.
Equipment Use & Monitoring
8. Operate site machinery such aspactors, woodrollers and cardboard balers.
9. Conduct basic maintenance checks, health and safety inspections and report defects promptly.
10. Ensure supplies for equipment are available by notifying the Supervisor.
Customer Support & Waste Guidance
11. Advise and assist members of the public on how to segregate and deposit waste correctly, including hazardous materials (, oils, batteries, paints, fluorescent tubes).
12. Ensure waste is handled and stored safely and in line with the site’s Waste Management Licence and Operational Plan.
13. Support recycling and reuse initiatives, including surveys andpetitions.
Traffic & Container Management
14. Manage the flow of vehicles on site, especially during busy periods, ensuring one-way systems are followed.
15. Assist collection vehicle drivers and maintain safe distances for site users using temporary barriers.
16. Ensure containers are filled and emptied efficiently, contacting contractors or Council teams when required.
Data Recording &pliance
17. Record and store all relevant data (digital and paper) in line with Council policies, includingmercial vehicle control data, Waste Transfer Notes and Consignment Notes.
18. Record tonnages of waste removed from the site where required.
19. Maintain the site diary and report accidents, incidents, near misses,plaints, breakdowns or unpermitted waste immediately.
20. Support external inspections and ensure all activitiesply with health and safety legislation, EMS (ISO 14001), Safe Systems of Work and licencing conditions.
Additional Responsibilities
21. Ensure WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is separated correctly as part of the site’s Designated Collection Facility duties.
22. Represent the Council professionally, enhancing its reputation and public profile.
23. Promote andply with equality, health and safety and all relevant Council policies.

Essential
28. At least one year’s experience in paid employment of outdoor manual work in all weather conditions
29. At least one year’s experience in paid employment of dealing with contractors and/or customers
30. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office packages
31. Experience in the operations of electronic devices such as mobile phones or tablets.
32. One year’s experience of operating electrical/mechanical equipment or plant in a work environment
Desirable
33. A relevant qualification in waste management
34. GCSE in English and Mathematics (grade C or above) or equivalent
35. A Health and Safety related qualification
36. At least two years’ experience in paid employment of outdoor manual work in all weather conditions
37. At least two years’ experience in paid employment of dealing with contractors and/or customers
38. Experience working within a waste and/or recycling environment
39. Experience ofpleting record sheets and recording incidents in the workplace
40. Experience of keepingputerised records
41. Experience of Health and Safety practices associated with carrying out waste disposal and recycling activities
