SEN Teaching Assistant Harrow, Northwest London ASAP Start Permanent (Employed directly by the school) £26,000- £28,000 Per Annum Forever Education is supporting a unique independent SEN group that provides therapeutic education for children and young people with special educational and neurodiverse learning needs. They are looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to work closely with a student based in Harrow on a 1:1 basis on permanent basis to start ASAP. JOB DESCRIPTION * To intensively support new students in working towards a ‘step down pathway’, of accessing 25 hours of community learning within the allocated timeframe agreed. * Provide day-to-day support by ‘signposting’ to the appropriate members of the Teaching and Learning and the Clinical and Inclusion team for support. * Attend weekly Referral and Integration meetings to provide regular updates on caseload of students on integration plans. * To undertake induction of new students. * Gather parent/carer and student’s views. * Create individualised timetables in consultation with parent/carer/student. * Identify venues for community-based learners, e.g., libraries, community centres. * Liaise with the Teaching and Learning Team to complete baseline assessments. * Ensuring that all paperwork is updated in a timely fashion – these may include assessment scoring, risk assessments and integration plan. * To maintain awareness of and commitment to the Health and Safety needs of all those with whom there is contact with, including first and foremost the young people. PERSON SPECIFICATION * Minimum of one years’ experience of working directly with high risk and complex pupils in a recognised setting such as social work, youth work or education. * Experience in taking a lead in behaviour management. Substantial experience of working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, emotionally based School Avoidance (EBSA) and a working knowledge of best practice in supporting neurodiverse pupils. * Clear understanding and knowledge of the National Curriculum, teaching, assessment and behaviour management strategies that facilitate effective learning and progress. * Knowledge and experience of the importance of cultural identity to young people, child protection guidance and commitment to safeguarding pupils and staff.
