Service Delivery Manager – MFTS
Location: RAF Shawbury (Shropshire); additional sites include RAF Valley (Anglesey), AHUK HQ Oxford, and Airbus Helicopters central teams Europe. Employment type: Permanent.

AHUK offers experience in helicopter sales, bespoke completions, maintenance, CAMO, and spares support. Its in‑house engineering capabilities include design, customisation, installation, flight‑testing and certification, as well as technical support, maintenance, training and supply of spares for civil and military applications. AHUK is also the MoD’s chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for its Defence Helicopter Flying School (MFTS), located in RAF Shawbury and RAF Valley.
Role Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will lead the Airbus Helicopters component of the MFTS rotary‑wing contract. The role ensures contract execution in line with targets for aircraft availability, cost, schedule adherence and revenue.
Key Responsibilities
 * Leadership: Inspire and operationally coordinate on‑site teams of Part 145 maintenance engineers, aircraft refuellers, handlers, airworthiness, quality, commercial, finance and supporting functions.
 * Stakeholder Representation: Represent Airbus at RAF Shawbury before key stakeholders from Ascent and the MoD.
 * Operational Performance: Accountable for end‑to‑end contract delivery performance (aircraft availability, cost, schedule, revenue and margin) while ramping up flight hours.
 * Cross‑Functional Integration: Ensure seamless collaboration between internal disciplines (engineering, supply chain, quality, project management) to streamline workflows and optimise performance.
 * Stakeholder Management: Manage complex stakeholder network to keep MoD, Ascent and Airbus colleagues in the UK, France and Germany informed and engaged.
 * Data‑Driven Governance: Implement robust systems and dashboards for clear visibility of performance and key metrics.
 * Team Development: Lead, mentor and develop diverse team leaders and their teams, fostering a high‑performing environment.
 * Process Optimisation: Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operational processes, seeking efficiency, cost reduction and enhanced service delivery.
 * Resource Management: Optimise allocation of people, equipment and facilities to meet operational demands.
 * Risk Management: Identify and mitigate operational risks, developing contingency plans to ensure continuity.
 * Compliance & Safety: Ensure activities adhere to aviation regulations, safety standards and company policies; promote proactive safety culture.
 * Reporting & Analysis: Provide insightful reports on operational performance to the Head of Operations and senior leadership.
Knowledge and Skills
 * 10+ years in senior operations or contracts leadership for military aircraft availability contracts.
 * Deep understanding of armed forces networks and ways of working.
 * Experience managing diverse operational teams across multiple contracts or programmes.
 * Knowledge of aviation regulations, Part 145, Part CAMO, CAA, MAA and B40 leaflet.
 * Strong understanding of aircraft/engine support contracts, MRO operations or complex project delivery.
 * Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
 * Strong personal accountability and problem‑solving ability.
 * Data‑driven decision‑making skills.
 * Proficiency in operational excellence methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) desirable.
 * Sound commercial acumen and budget management experience.
 * Decisive analytical and critical evaluation skills.
Education, Qualifications or Training
Essential
 * Extensive experience in technical or commercial roles within aerospace industry.
 * Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration or related field; Master’s preferred.
Desirable
 * Experience managing Airbus helicopter customers and/or support & services.
 * Direct experience of military programmes delivery as senior officer or commercial collaborator at same level.

 * Must possess current legal right to work in UK; Airbus does not sponsor work visas.
