We are now recruiting for the role of Components and Mechanical Equipment Engineer. The Components and Mechanical Equipment Engineer will work within cross-functional teams and with the global supply chain to deliver product designs for components within the scope of the role. The candidate must work to integrate all factors into the design process to define the product and supporting information.
The role involves working on concept product development throughout the product lifecycle and being part of a team with product ownership of the scope. This environment requires handling development in iterative and ambiguous stages.
Engineering roles are available in specific component and mechanical equipment teams covering:
* Major Reactor Island Equipment,
* Nuclear Equipment,
* Plant Equipment and Commodity Equipment.
While nuclear experience is ideal, professionals from other industries are encouraged to apply to build a diverse team. We seek various levels of expertise, from entry-level to experienced, to develop a balanced team.
The department develops a range of components such as reactor pressure vessels, control rod drive mechanisms, steam generators, pumps, valves, pipework, tanks, vessels, core components, filters, strainers, spargers, ion-exchange columns, reverse osmosis tanks, and more.
Transferable skills include:
* Pressure Vessel/Equipment design experience,
* Rotary equipment design experience,
* Thermal equipment design experience,
* Mechanical design/manufacture knowledge,
* Pipework and valves knowledge,
* General product development knowledge,
* Systems Engineering & Robust Design,
* REDV development and management.
Role Criteria:
Relevant product design experience and capability in equipment/products relevant to the nuclear or other high-integrity industries, including pressure vessels, rotary, thermal, mechanical design, pipework, valves, general product development, systems engineering, and REDV management.
Experience with concept generation, design evaluations, calculations, testing, and manufacturing; report and calculation production; understanding of structural integrity and validation/verification processes.
Customer and Supplier Engagement:
* Review technical and commercial bids, make supply chain recommendations.
* Work with suppliers to develop capabilities and solutions.
* Review vendor documentation, including calculations and drawings.
* Build relationships with supply chain partners.
* Develop internal capabilities for understanding pump designs and solutions.
Communication Skills:
* Excellent written and verbal skills to convey complex technical issues to diverse audiences, including senior management.
* Ability to present safety cases and compile arguments and evidence in formal documentation.
Planning and Leadership:
* Experience in planning, scheduling, and coordinating work across teams.
* Experience leading and mentoring, acting as a technical lead.
* Ability to manage projects with high ambiguity and complexity.
* Foster an open, trusting, and inclusive work environment.
Pay and Benefits:
* Salary: £40,000 - £52,500 DOE
* Bonus: 12.5% performance-related target
* Benefits Allowance: £2,200/year
* Pension: 12% employer, 6% employee contributions
