Job Summary

This consultant psychiatrist role offers a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000 and an £8,000 relocation allowance (pro‑rated for part‑time staff). The position is situated in Lyra Ward, a 16‑bed female inpatient unit within the new purpose‑built Northwest Mental Health Inpatient Service in Chertsey.
Main Duties
* Deliver consultant psychiatric input to inpatients admitted per the Acute Service Operational Policy.
* Provide clinical leadership and participate actively in service improvement activities.
* Work effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues and liaise with other general and specialist teams to ensure seamless handover and discharge planning.
* Lead ward rounds, support clinical decision‑making, and shape service development.
* Collaborate with Home Treatment Teams, community services and families to support safe discharge and recovery.

Job Description
* Deliver consultant psychiatric care to a diverse adult population in a recovery‑focused environment.
* Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, ensuring high‑quality, evidence‑based care.
* Manage clinical complexity, risk, and uncertainty, meeting duties under the Mental Health Act and the Care Programme Approach.
* Engage with patients, families, and carers, fostering safe discharge and ongoing recovery.
* Participate in audit, research, and continuous professional development activities.
Essential Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
* Full medical registration with a licence to practice.
* Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6‑12 months of interview).
* Fully registered with the GMC and meeting specialist register requirements.
Desirable Qualifications
* Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc) or additional clinical qualifications.
* MRCPsych or equivalent.
* Management qualification or evidence of leadership interest.
* Relevant specialist or sub‑specialist experience.
* Published audit, research or peer‑review contributions.
Essential Clinical Skills & Knowledge
* Risk management and legislative awareness (Health Act, MCA, NHS guidance).
* Clinical leadership in multidisciplinary teams.
* Exceptional oral and written communication in English.
* Proficiency in IT and electronic health records.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
Desirable Clinical Skills & Knowledge
* Experience in management roles.
* Ability to produce and use multimedia presentations.
* Research or audit publication record.
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
