This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.

An opportunity has become available for a part time, 28.5 hour per week, Band 6 nurse to join our small but motivated & creative outpatient team at Main OPD RSCH within The Corporate Directorate. It is RSCH’s Main OPD unit offering care to patients from a wide-ranging demographic, many with complex health needs.

The department runs clinics covering many different specialities such as Medical and Surgical Cardiology, Respiratory, Chemical Pathology, Allergy, Digestive Diseases, Diabetic, Endocrine, Stroke, Anticoagulation, Vascular, ACHD and Haematology. The post holder will need to have the ability to understand the differing clinical needs & pathways for patients being cared for within these specialities. Therefore, experience in outpatients and the specialities would be helpful but training can be provided for any areas required for the successful applicant.

You will be part of a team responsible for driving outpatients forward and be able to represent this area at senior level. The successful candidate will be offered a supportive & friendly working environment with opportunities to develop further.

Main duties of the job

The role is split between working clinically and assisting in the organization and management of the department.

The post holder will....

1. Work in all clinic specialties
2. Work with our Practice Educator for the professional development and education of all members of staff.
3. Will help motivate, lead and support the team.
4. Will need to be an empowering leader with a proven ability in delivering high quality care. Undertake audits and implement changes as required.
5. Deliver a high standard of individualized, holistic patient centred care.
6. Will contribute to and influence the total patient experience and journey through collaborative working and effective communication.
7. Promote effective communication with external agencies to facilitate ongoing patient care.
8. Produce accurate and legible nursing records according to NMC guidelines.
9. Be responsible for the development, planning and co-ordination of clinics whilst supervising junior members of the Team.
10. Support senior staff in the management of the Department by assisting with the management of staff, resources and skill mix ensuring maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
11. Take part in the appraisal process.
12. Maintain full awareness of current regimes, policies, and protocols.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Patient Care Delivery

13. To assess, plan and implement care in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team for general outpatient clinics.
14. To update and maintain nursing procedures in patients records either manual or electronic as required.
15. To act as a direct point of contact during outpatient treatments. This will include providing advice on any treatments or procedures that may be needed. The post holder will be expected to provide advice on different range of treatments and diagnostic tests.
16. Work unsupervised providing nursing care as part of the multi-disciplinary team to patients, communicating with, and referring to other healthcare professionals as necessary.
17. Deliver a high standard of individualised holistic patient care to promote and maintain all aspects of his/her physical, social, cultural, and psychological wellbeing.
18. Maintain full awareness of current regimes, policies, and protocols.
19. To gain the knowledge and competence in venepuncture, ECG’s, complex vascular dressings and Compression Bandaging if not already proficient.
20. Act in emergency situations being able to make clinical decisions under pressure.
21. Taking ownership of telephone enquiries promptly and courteously.
22. Maintain competence and knowledge within one’s own area of speciality.
23. At all times work in a way that eliminates the risk of infection to patients. Follows the Trust’s infection control and hand washing policies and Tendable safety audits.
24. Contribute to developments within the Main Outpatient Department.
25. Act as the patient’s advocate at all times using the NMC Professional Code of Conduct as a framework for nursing practice.
26. Act as patients’ chaperone where necessary, for medical examinations.

27. RGN /1st level RN (NMC registration with current PIN)
28. Computer literate Experience in supervising staff Good organisational skills Recent experience in a health care setting
29. Competent in observation skills. Excellent communication skills and able to communicate sensitively, diplomatically and with confidentially. Good written and spoken English. Able to communicate complex information to patients and multidisciplinary team. Able to cope with distressing situations and challenging behaviours. Team building skills. Able to prioritise and manage own work and delegate to junior staff. Good time management skills Exercise own initiative when dealing with issues. within own specialist area of competence
30. Deputise for the senior sister. Ability to support junior staff. Management, supervision, co-ordination, teaching, training and development of employees, students.
31. Substantial post qualification experience

Desirable criteria

32. Evidence of formal on-going professional development in a relevant field Teaching and assessing /supervisory qualifications Experience working in an Outpatients Department
