We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic Student Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly team in the beautiful cathedral city of Salisbury. If you are an animal lover who wants to pursue a career in Veterinary Nursing, we want to hear from you. Your role with us would be full-time, working 40 hours a week, gathering knowledge by working alongside our experienced registered veterinary nurses, vets, and reception staff. The right candidate would then be put through training to become a veterinary nurse. The position includes attending Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing one day a week, completing assignments, written and practical examinations, and the Central Skills Log (CSL).
The entry requirements for the Veterinary Nursing course are as follows:
* Students must be 16 years or older to commence training and must have achieved a minimum level of education qualifications either 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (now graded as 4 - 9) or 5 Scottish grades 1 to 3. These passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Science, and 2 additional subjects. Alternative qualifications of a comparable or higher standard may be accepted at the discretion of the awarding body.
* For the level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing, students cannot apply to come onto the course unless they have secured a position within an RCVS training practice as an employed member of staff and completed at least 3 months probation with their training practice.
* The veterinary nursing apprenticeship is completed over 3 years and includes 24 months of theoretical teaching and a further 12 months of developing practical skills. Student veterinary nurses are required to complete a mandatory minimum of 2,990 hours of training with a minimum of 1,800 hours of practical experience at an approved training practice.
Skills that you will learn and be expected to carry out to the highest standard include animal handling and husbandry, reception tasks, maintaining cleanliness, and caring for inpatients. Further on in your training, you will be able to carry out general anaesthetics, administer medications, perform radiographs, take blood samples, and place intravenous catheters.
Student Veterinary Nurses also carry out consultations with clients, so amazing communication skills will be expected.
