Finally, we offer innovative courses led by world leading experts, providing a truly research-based learning experience delivered by some of the greatest minds in science and medicine today.

The Division reaching across three London campuses (Bloomsbury, Royal Free and Stanmore) brings together three major research departments; Tissue and Energy, Nanotechnology and Materials and Tissue. Within these departments are world class research centres, specialising in many different surgical and interventional specialties.

About the role

The Prostate Cancer Unit at UCL has carried out unprecedented work over the years, transforming our understanding of this disease and the global approaches to diagnosing and treating it. Founded by Professor Mark Emberton, UCL prostate cancer researchers discovered the benefits of using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners for prostate cancer diagnosis. Proved to be efficient and non-invasive, this discovery has doubled the accuracy of prostate cancer diagnosis, allowing thousands of men a year to avoid an unnecessary biopsy. Few institutions have the expertise, history of success and specialist infrastructure to carry out the pioneering research and clinical trials needed to drive forward research in prostate cancer today. At UCL we are world leader in prostate MRI and two key studies of the last 10 years (PROMIS, PRECISION and PRIME trials) have been successfully led by our group of researchers and clinicians.

This job is ideal for a pre-CCT doctor in training or returning to training after the research post. Post-CCT doctors are welcome to apply but it would be funded pro rata as per their consultant salary scale and be dependent on undertaking joint employment as per the Follett principles.
