Your role will be working to protect and improve the health and wildlife richness of our countryside, preserving all the benefits we get from it and helping our visitors to experience and get closer to conservation of our special outdoor places.Your training will be delivered via a combination of mandatory week long college blocks and online learning, with all expenses and travel paid. There may also be opportunities to travel to other National Trust locations with some overnight stays to expand your learning and experience.Longshaw is a wonderful place to discover spectacular views of the Peak District, ancient woodlands, parkland and heather moorland. White Edge Moor overlooks the Derwent Valley and forms part of the long gritstone edge stretching from Stanage towards Birchens Edge, south of Chatsworth House. Longshaw also sits very close to the city of Sheffield and as a result is a dynamic countryside site with a mixture of habitat types.Longshaw is a haven for wildlife and boasts species such as Northern Hairy Woodants, Pied Flycatchers, Red deer, Whinchat as well as a multitude of varieties of Wax Cap fungus for which Longshaw is nationally renowned for. You'll support with a range of tasks such as dry stone walling, tree planting, fencing, woodland management, footpath surveys, helping with monitoring flora and fauna species and access work. You'll also be working with volunteers.Working alongside your mentor on tasks specific to your apprenticeship, you'll develop the skills & knowledge relevant to this apprenticeship standard. (Countryside worker level 2)You’ll attend, and prepare for, regular review meetings with your training provider, and be accountable for your own progression.
