Consultant - Cardiology (Non-interventional)
Applications are invited for the Consultant in Cardiology post. This post is within the Cardiology Department - Acute and Emergency Medicine (AEM) care group of the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. We are currently a team of 11 substantive full-time Cardiologists, 1 part-time substantive consultant, and 2 NHS Fixed Term Locums. We aim to employ 2 further substantive Cardiologists to take us to 15 full-time Consultants delivering the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Cardiology service.
This post is principally designed to support delivery of non-interventional Cardiology services, specifically Heart Failure and devices. Applicants should have a broad training in all aspects of Cardiology. The candidate will be expected to take part in the General Cardiology service on the wards and in out-patients.
Applicants are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
Main duties of the job
Please note: This is a permanent consultant post. You must be on the specialist register or pending a CCT date. The on-call rota is manned by 7 Interventional Cardiologists only, with no separate General Cardiology on-call. The non-interventional Cardiologists deliver comprehensive weekend ward rounds including visits to the Acute Medical Unit to review new referrals. There is no general medical commitment.
Inpatients are managed on CIU and the CCU, although there are also outlying patients. The Cardiologists are responsible for the clinical management of all patients on the CCU and CIU and cardiology patients on outlying wards.
During this week, you will have responsibility for the clinical management of patients on CCU and CIU all day on Mondays and in the mornings for the rest of the week, with cath lab sessions and/or outpatient clinics in the afternoon.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
* MRCP or equivalent
* GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT (or equivalent) at time of interview.
* Higher degree, e.g. MD or PhD
Experience
* Contemporary experience in managing general and acute Cardiology
* Competency in Bradycardia pacing and Complex devices
* Management course
* Teaching experience (medical students, peers, MDT)
* Experience in clinical audit and clinical governance and understanding the benefits of how this improves the quality of care provided to patients and ensuring this is embedded in clinical practice.
Practical and Intellectual skills (including any special Knowledge)
* Strong clinical and personal credibility
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; adapts style depending on audience
* Conceptual and analytical skills
* Speak fluent English to at least I.E.L.R.S Level 7.5
* Flexible approach and ability to adapt to quickly changing priorities
* Able to operate as an agent of change and ability to work collaboratively with peers, MDT.
