A Salaried GP works as an autonomous practitioner, responsible forthe provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering anexcellent standard of clinical care while complying with the contract.
Main duties of the job
Furthermore, the post-holder willadhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to theeffective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining apositive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.
The role is to support, mentor, andsupervise other healthcare professionals within the organisation and be anintegral part of the general practice team.
Thisrole may be aligned to the Primary Care Network (PCN), with opportunities towork collaboratively across the network depending on service needs.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilitiesof the Salaried GP in delivering health services.
* a.The delivery of highly effective medical care to theentitled population
* b.The provision of services commensurate with the primarycare contract
* c.To clinically examine and assess patient needs from aphysiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical careaccordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner,utilising Practice and any other local guidelines
* d.Generic prescribing adhering to local and nationalguidance
* e.Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately toassist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, includinginitiation of effective emergency care
* f.Effective management of long-term conditions
* g.To support patients to adopt health promotion strategiesthat promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
* h.Processing of administration in a timely manner,including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associatedadministrative tasks
* i.Review medications following the appropriate policies,NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways
* j.Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction withgood practice, policy and guidance
* k.Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of thepractice workload
* l.Adhere to best practice recommended through clinicalguidelines and the audit process
* m.Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans
* n.Contribute to the successful implementation of continuousimprovement and quality initiatives within the practice
* o.Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (orareas) or the QOF
* p.Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings asrequired
* q.Contribute effective to the development and maintenanceof the practice including clinical governance and training
* r.Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regardingcurrent legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures onSafeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
* s.Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
* t.Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remainfit to practice

* x.To be an integral part of the general practice team aswell as supporting the wider network and multi-disciplinary team
* y.There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry outother tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload andstaffing levels
In addition to the primary responsibilities,the Salaried GP has the following wider responsibilities:
* a.Participate in the spectrum of clinical governanceprocesses
* b.Participate in formal training events promoting bestpractice in area of expertise Provide leadership and education for members ofthe multi-disciplinary team, providing guidance and support when necessary
* c.Participate in local initiatives to enhance servicedelivery and patient care
Person Specification
* Full GMC registration
* Performers List registration noting that confirmation on this list is adequate for DBS confirmation:
* England Conforms to the National Performers List and is able to perform any such service as detailed within Regulation 24 of the National Health Service (Performers Lists) (England) Regulations 2013.
* Evidence of current validation
* Evidence of last appraisal
* Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
Clinical knowledge and skills
* Outstanding level of clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with that of an experienced GP
* Understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice
* Good MS Office and clinical system IT knowledge
* Understanding of the spectrum of clinical governance processes
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral) including recording of accurate clinical notes
* Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GP colleagues
* Experience of triage and the ability to effectively assess and diagnose
* Ability to listen whilst being honest and caring and be both sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations
* Understanding of the local pathology tests processes and the ability to processing the results with advising patients accordingly
* Ability to assess and manage acute deteriorations /exacerbations of long-term conditions
* Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
* Understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice
* Knowledge of health promotion strategies
* Experience of medicines management
* Knowledge of public health issues in the local area

Qualifications
* Qualified GP
* MRCGP
* Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
Experience
* Ability to both work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of working in a primary care environment
* Experience of providing home visits
* General understanding of the primary care contract
* Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice
