New Directions Education is recruiting a caring, patient, and dedicated Nurture Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Key Stage 2 within a nurturing and inclusive school environment.
This role is ideal for someone who understands that children may need extra emotional support to feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn.
About the role:
As a KS2 Nurture Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils who may experience social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties. You will help create a calm, predictable, and supportive environment where children can build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting pupils in small nurture groups and 1:1 sessions
2. Helping children develop emotional regulation, self‑esteem, and social skills
3. Providing targeted support to help pupils re‑engage with learning
4. Supporting behaviour in a positive, consistent, and trauma‑informed way
5. Assisting with structured routines, transitions, and interventions
6. Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
7. Observing, recording progress, and contributing to pupil reviews
8. Promoting a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

9. Are calm, empathetic, and patient
10. Have experience supporting children in KS2 (school or alternative settings)
11. Have knowledge of nurture principles, SEMH needs, or trauma‑informed practice
12. Are confident managing behaviour using positive strategies
13. Are passionate about helping children feel understood, supported, and valued
14. Work well as part of a team and communicate effectively with staff and families
Experience & requirements:
15. Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar child‑focused role is desirable
16. A genuine interest in supporting children with additional emotional or behavioural needs
17. Willingness to complete safeguarding and relevant training if required
18. An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply)
