The United Kingdom Fisheries Monitoring Centre (UKFMC) team are responsible for monitoring fishing vessels in UK waters, and UK vessels elsewhere, providing 24 hour service, 7 days a week. We are looking for an Assistant Operations Officer to assist the Senior/Operations Officers with the day to day running of the UKFMC. Working with us will afford you the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas, particularly around operational analysis and intelligence. It is important to note that, due to the shift patterns worked in this team, the working hours for this post are 07:00 – 15:00 in order to provide essential support. This may change to an alternative shift pattern at a future date. Responsibilities Administration of documentation submitted for the requirements under Port State Control and Illegal Unreported Unregulated fishing scheme for landings both into 3 rd Country and UK. Data entry and extraction of reports relating to Port State Control for dissemination to appropriate authorities by electronic means. Analysis of data and creation of relevant reports for onward transmission to policy and coastal colleagues. General administrative duties. Organise and attend a variety of meetings, taking minutes and circulating as appropriate. Analysis and extraction of Data for bespoke electronic systems. Providing parent agencies with classified information after analysis and clearance. Managing mailbox. Archiving essential documentation onto secure electronic storage facility. Assessments are scheduled for w/c 6 October 2025 however this may be subject to change About Us Marine Directorate manages Scotland’s marine and freshwater environments, dealing with issues such as sea fisheries, marine litter, offshore renewables and aquaculture. We have more than 700 staff around Scotland including scientists, mariners, enforcement officers, policy specialists, finance specialists and economists. We also currently have our own fleet of two aircraft, three Marine Protection vessels, two inshore protection vessels and two Marine Research vessels making us an exciting, unique and dynamic working environment. Marine Directorate Operations is responsible for deterring and detecting illegal activities through effective compliance and enforcement arrangements. We employ Marine staff that are responsible for the crewing of Marine Directorate's three Marine Protection vessels and Coastal Inspection staff, who make up the Sea Fisheries Inspectorate. The Coastal staff are located at 18 Fishery Offices around the coast of Scotland, UKFMC in Edinburgh, and at the Registration of Buyers and Sellers (RBS) Unit, which is based in Aberdeen. Working Pattern This post is based in Victoria Quay, Edinburgh, and in line with SG current ways of working, the UKFMC team follows a hybrid working approach, where colleagues use a mix of office based and remote working (working from home) depending on the requirements of the role. There will be an initial requirement to attend Victoria Quay for training.
