We have an exciting opportunity for a Neurological Occupational Therapist in Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust to join the Adult Services Department at Danesbury Neurological Unit, Welwyn. You will work as a vital member of the Inpatient Therapy Team at Danesbury Neurological Centre, specialising in the treatment and management of individuals with acute neurological conditions. You will be responsible for carrying out specialist occupational therapy assessments, delivering individualised intervention programmes, and coordinating discharge arrangements for patients requiring neurological rehabilitation. You will also manage communication with carers, relatives, and external agencies, providing professional guidance and ensuring continuity of care across the patient pathway.

As an Advanced Neurological Occupational Therapist, you will manage a complex clinical caseload and support the effective day‑to‑day delivery of therapy services within the unit. You will contribute to service development, maintain high‑quality clinical records, and ensure practice aligns with professional standards and local policies. You will support junior colleagues through supervision, training, and mentorship, while participating in audits, governance activities, and departmental planning.

Responsibilities

* Maintain professional autonomy within practice, taking full accountability for clinical decisions and ensuring all interventions are delivered in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional frameworks while upholding high standards of safe and effective practice at all times.
* Monitor and mitigate potential risks associated with patient presentations, implementing appropriate safety measures and responding proactively to changes in patient condition and environmental factors.
* Support continuity of service delivery by adapting clinical priorities in response to changing demands, unexpected situations, and fluctuating patient needs, employing flexibility, sound judgement and effective time management.
* Ensure all rehabilitation equipment, assistive devices, and therapeutic resources are used safely, maintained appropriately, and checked prior to use, escalating any faults, concerns or safety issues promptly through the correct reporting channels.
* Engage in reflective practice, peer discussions and case‑based learning activities to strengthen clinical reasoning and support continuous professional development, actively participating in learning opportunities relevant to specialist practice.
* Contribute to maintaining a high‑quality therapeutic environment by supporting compliance with health and safety requirements, infection prevention measures and local operational procedures, promoting best practice standards across the service.

* Experience supporting patients with neurological conditions within a healthcare or rehabilitation setting.
* Proven experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams delivering rehabilitation services.
* Competent in manual handling, clinical documentation, IT systems and adapting communication to complex patient needs.
