Context & Environment
TotalEnergies has ambitions to develop and operate renewable power generation in the US. TotalEnergies Gas & Power North America Inc. will support that activity on a physical scheduling and commercial/marketing basis. US electricity markets are complex and volatile; trading such markets requires an excellent understanding of risks, strong interrelationships, correlation with other commodities such as gas or coal, and the increasing role of renewables in the electricity mix.
PURPOSES
* Work within the formalised delegated Trading Authority Limits.
* Abide by compliance rules and directives.
* Contribute positively towards the financial trading P&L.
* Execute power trading strategy on wholesale (physical & financial) markets within trading execution limits under direction of N+1.
* Maintain compliance with the Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures of the Company and the Group.
Activities
* Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the US Power markets on multiple ISOs.
* Develop & maintain market models and analysis tools, including forward curves & market information reports.
* Contribute to power trading strategy, including identifying new products & markets.
* Own the trading strategies of the desk and communicate their rationale to management.
* Work closely with the operational team to ensure physical positions are managed and transferred in a timely manner for scheduling.
* Support commercial efforts to offer and implement electricity purchase and sale and other power contracts to other group entities and third parties.
* Maintain good internal working relationships with risk control, finance, HR, compliance and legal.
* Maintain current knowledge of financial market regulations in the markets we operate.
* Build and maintain good relationships with the main market stakeholders: other electricity consuming or producing TotalEnergies affiliates, external counterparties, brokers, exchanges, ISOs, etc.
DIMENSIONS
* Participate in the day‑to‑day speculative trading activity and work with the Power Trading team and Research to devise strategies that maximise P&L.
* Help grow the activity in terms of identifying new opportunities in the various ISO markets.
* For new activities, establish the scope of work required for implementation, specify systems, contribute to establishing procedures, and achieve internal authorisations to trade new markets.
Candidate Profile
* University educated with significant mathematical, economic or finance knowledge.
* Strong analytical capabilities and fundamental understanding of energy markets.
* 15 years of relevant industry experience in an electricity, gas and renewable/emissions organisation.
* Experience in operations and risk management relating to wholesale energy trading.
* Fluent in English.
