Speciality Lead Sonographer – General & Gynaecology (Band 8a)
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated, dynamic, innovative, and professional individual to join our established team of Speciality Lead Sonographers as a lead for General and Gynaecological ultrasound.
The successful candidate must have a flexible approach to work and a desire to further develop and progress the ultrasound service. You will support the operational management of the service, ensuring appropriate workflows are maintained. A key aspect of the role involves managing in-patient flow and Rapid Access pathways to ensure optimal service delivery and efficient resource utilization.
You will collaborate within the team of Speciality Lead Sonographers, supporting the management team in achieving departmental goals. Additionally, you will provide leadership and support in the education of Sonographers, Trainees, and Support Workers.
Candidates should hold a postgraduate qualification in ultrasound and possess extensive clinical experience in both acute and outpatient settings. Leadership and demand management experience are essential.
* Provide and facilitate expert-level knowledge
* Exercise a high degree of professional autonomy in decision-making to improve patient outcomes and service delivery
* Participate in team leadership, education, audit, and develop innovative practices, identifying opportunities for service improvement
* Engage in Quality and Governance processes, including Datix, Quality Assurance, and Protocol review
* Contribute to training and student mentorship
* Support the management team in achieving departmental goals
* Assist in meeting Turnaround Targets and statutory requirements
The Imaging Department offers a range of General Medical Ultrasound services managed and supported from the Royal Stoke site. Clinical services are provided from Royal Stoke, County Stafford, and several smaller community units. From April 2026, services will also be available at the new Clinical Diagnostic Centre in Hanley.
The department provides outpatient services, supports busy acute inpatient portals, and offers various subspecialty scans including vascular, paediatric, MSK, and Head & Neck.
As a large, modern, and dynamic department, we operate a 7-day service, including bank holidays on a rotational basis, with a diverse and challenging caseload.
