Overview
Celebratory Officers are mainly allocated to ceremonies at licensed venues, providing opportunities to work at Kent's beautiful ceremony venues. You will be allocated to a District base, but the ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential. You may occasionally be allocated to ceremonies at Register Offices where required.
Responsibilities
* Register and conduct civil ceremonies, including marriages, civil partnerships, and renewal of vows.
* Attend mandatory Assessment Days (week commencing 16 February 2026) and Interviews (week commencing 23 February 2026).
* Contract start date: 1 April 2026.
* Register of Marriage Training for successful candidates (11–13 May 2026 OR 27–29 May 2026; dates to be confirmed with candidates).
* Work that requires customer-facing duties in line with statutory requirements and service standards.
Requirements and Availability
* Post is a customer-facing position; the Council has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the job.
* Be available to attend Assessment Days, Interviews, and Training as listed above.
* Be able to travel across Kent and work flexible hours, including peak ceremony times.
* During training there may be consolidation of learning due to varying ceremony availability in your district.
Working Arrangements and Benefits
* Annualised hours contracts available: 248 hours and 136 hours per annum.
* Salary: £26,393 pro-rata (approx. £1,865 or £3,402 per annum depending on contract size).
* Salary is paid in equal monthly instalments over the year regardless of hours worked.
* The greatest proportion of work will occur during peak ceremony times, typically from June to September inclusive.
* You will be required to work Fridays and/or Saturdays depending on contractual hours.
* Flexible working arrangements are available; guidance on workload and travel will be provided.
