Buyer – Electronics / Telecoms | Cambridgeshire | Office-Based with Some Travel
A fast-growing technology company near Cambridge is seeking an experienced Buyer to join its Supply Chain team. This role is ideal for someone looking to make a real impact within a complex, international procurement environment.
You’ll be responsible for building and managing a high-performing, cost-effective supply chain, supporting both existing product lines and new product developments. The successful candidate will bring strong supplier management skills, attention to detail, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage relationships with key international suppliers and contract manufacturers.
2. Schedule materials and ensure on-time delivery to support customer demand.
3. Support the Senior Buyer in developing and implementing purchasing strategy.
4. Source components and manage the onboarding of new suppliers.
5. Oversee supplier engagement during new product introduction (NPI) phases.
6. Identify and resolve issues related to component obsolescence.
7. Analyse and respond to commodity market movements.
8. Negotiate contracts and drive cost reductions across supplier accounts.
9. Develop the supply base with a focus on total cost of acquisition.
10. Monitor supplier performance and drive quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience
15. Level 3 CIPS Certificate (or working towards it).
16. Supply chain experience within the electronics or telecoms industries.
17. Hands-on experience managing offshore/contract manufacturers.
18. Exposure to full product development lifecycle, from concept to volume production.
19. Confidence and credibility when interacting with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
20. Ability to manage multiple priorities and act decisively under pressure.
Location & Travel
21. Based near Cambridge (office-based role with occasional international travel).
22. Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
