We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed senior midwife with strong clinical leadership skills. You will be joining a well-established team of Labour Ward Sisters, dedicated to the ongoing promotion of woman centred personalised care in line with ‘Better Births’ and delivering high standards of intrapartum care.
The role will involve the coordination of the Labour Ward at our Stoke Mandeville site and leadership for a small team of midwives including their appraisals and personal development plans.
As a member of our team you will be professional, reliable, safe and compassionate to women, babies and their families. You will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team in an environment that is open, supportive and empowering.
It is essential that you have the required post registration experience for this post and that you possess excellent communication skills, is flexible and enjoy working within a busy, enthusiastic team.
Main duties of the job
• Manage the clinical area of responsibility.
• Assesses the full range of care needs and develops, implements and evaluates programmes of care in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period for women and their babies.
• Works autonomously within guidelines and sphere of professional practice.
• Acts as a mentor for new qualified and junior midwives and other staff providing leadership within the practice environment.
• Provides a full range of Health Education and social care advice to women in the hospital setting.
• Promoting commitment to the Trust.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
1. Registered Midwife
2. Evidence of continuing professional development and its application
Desirable criteria
3. Diploma / Degree level
4. ALSO course
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
5. Recent experience at Band 6
6. Experience in all areas of Midwifery with evidence of recent comprehensive ward based experience
7. Can demonstrate leadership skills and initiative
Desirable criteria
8. Management of Change process
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
9. Clinical Skills ie perineal suturing, IV Cannulation
10. Understanding of learning and teaching styles and their application
11. Evidence of managerial development
12. Ability to act as a mentor for Midwives, students and MCAs, skilled in teaching trained and untrained staff, carers and patients
13. IT literate on Microsoft Office and Excel
14. Excellent communication skills with all members of the team, patients and relatives
15. Good verbal and written English which can be evidenced at interview or IELTs level 7 (in all elements) or above
16. Demonstrates effective management in the clinical environment
17. Awareness and respect for colleagues, patients and relatives cultural, religious and emotional needs and beliefs
18. Good previous attendance record
