Livewell Southwest is looking for a proactive, people‑centred People Advisor to join our supportive HR People Team. This role influences positive change, collaborates with colleagues, and shapes our workforce experience.

This role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.

All Livewell staff are expected to be able and willing to work across a 7‑day service.

Main duties of the job

What you will be doing

As a People Advisor, you will be a trusted partner to managers and teams, providing high‑quality HR advice, coaching and operational support. Your work will span a variety of areas including:

* Employment legislation, terms and conditions, and people policies
* Supporting managers through complex people matters with clarity and confidence
* Helping to strengthen people‑management capability across the organisation
* Contributing to wider HR projects, policy development and ongoing improvements

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

* An Associate Member of the CIPD with HR experience in a large or complex organisation
* Ideally working towards Chartered Member CIPD status
* Highly organised, solutions‑focused, and able to balance competing priorities
* Skilled at building strong, trusting relationships at every level
* Emotionally intelligent, resilient, and comfortable working autonomously
* Confident in current employment law and good HR practice

Job responsibilities


Employee Relations/People Management

Advise and support managers in managing absence, discipline and grievance, capability issues and management of change. This may include participation in meetings and on occasions advising managers at hearings where complex and sensitive information is communicated.

Work in partnership with managers to develop effective solutions to HR management issues through the effective use of questioning, listening, persuasion and negotiating skills.

Support the development of managers people‑management skills through advice, coaching and training.

Line management responsibilities may be required for junior members of the team.


Policies and Procedures

Interprets and reviews changes to employment legislation and uses this knowledge to contribute to the development and implementation of HR policies.


Training and Development

Preparing and delivering training and development activities including identifying appropriate training solutions to a variety of audiences e.g. conduct, capability, induction, maternity.


Equality and Diversity

To promote and provide advice and guidance on Equality and Diversity issues as they relate to people management and in the context of the services supported.


Other Responsibilities

Use HR data to proactively provide HR advice and guidance to support improvements within service areas e.g. tackling areas of high absence, recruitment and retention, workforce planning.

Undertake project work as required which may include carrying out research and producing reports and statistical information and working with colleagues to implement the project e.g. reward and benefits.

Participate in continuous professional development.

Undertake other duties commensurate to the role and banding of the post.


Communications and Relationships

Maintain effective working relationships with managers, employees, team members, trade unions, professional associations and external organisations.


Person Specification


Specific skills

* Ability to interpret policies, terms and conditions and analyse situations.
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to use other systems as required.
* Research and analytical skills to interpret complex information.
* Developed interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills required to exchange sensitive/complex information to a variety of audiences.
* Persuasion and negotiating skills.
* Ability to present information using a variety of methods to different audiences.
* Ability to plan, prioritise, manage and organise own workload to meet conflicting and competing service needs.
* Judgement and problem‑solving skills to be able to provide options/solutions on people management issues.
* Ability to access a variety of Livewell Southwest sites.
* Ability to frequently travel independently and in a timely manner between Livewell Southwest sites and community locations including areas not served by public transport.


Experience

* Significant demonstrable experience of Human Resources issues in a large complex organisation including sickness absence management, change management, employment law and performance and case management issues.
* Experience of providing HR advice and support in an HR environment on terms and conditions e.g. policies & procedures, maternity, paternity, adoption.
* Experience of preparing and delivering training and development activities on a range of HR topics.
* Experience of using an employee records database.
* Experience of reward & benefits.
* Experience of advising on TUPE transfers either into or out of the organisation.
* Broad experience of supporting on organisational change processes.
* Experience of working in a Trade Union environment.


Qualifications

* Degree in HRM or related field or equivalent level of experience.
* Associate member of the CIPD.
* Chartered Member status with the CIPD.


Knowledge

* Proven knowledge of current people management practice.
* Understanding of the principles of job evaluation.
* Proven knowledge of Equality and Diversity including associated legislation.
* Broad knowledge and experience of interpreting employment legislation e.g. TUPE legislation.
* Recent and relevant continuing professional development (e.g. Employment Law courses and regular employment updates).
* Knowledge of public sector terms and conditions.
