Job Overview
Band 7 secondment opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to develop advanced leadership and operational management skills within Pharmacy Operational Services. The role provides day‑to‑day operational leadership for defined areas of pharmacy services, supporting the safe, efficient and timely supply of medicines across the Trust.
Main Duties
* Manage the day‑to‑day operation of defined Pharmacy Operational Services, ensuring continuity of safe medicines supply
* Provide line management and supervision to pharmacy technicians and assistants within agreed service areas
* Monitor service performance against local KPIs and address operational issues as they arise
* Support compliance with quality, governance and regulatory requirements, including GDP and local SOPs
* Contribute to and, where appropriate, lead service improvement and efficiency initiatives
* Support recruitment, appraisal, rota management and staff development
* Participate in dispensary services, including dispensing and final accuracy checking (ACPT)
* Act as a senior professional role model and support the development of the pharmacy technical workforce
Operational Management
* Manage the day‑to‑day delivery of defined Pharmacy Operational Services, ensuring safe, timely and effective medicines supply
* Oversee stock management within operational areas, ensuring appropriate storage, rotation and availability of medicines
* Monitor workload, capacity and performance, escalating risks and issues appropriately
Leadership & People Management
* Provide leadership and line management to pharmacy technicians and assistants
* Support staff recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal and performance management
* Coordinate rotas and manage staffing resources to maintain service delivery
* Promote Trust values and foster a positive, inclusive team culture
Quality, Governance & Risk
* Support compliance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP), health & safety, COSHH and infection prevention requirements
* Implement actions arising from audits, inspections, incidents and complaints within own area of responsibility
* Contribute to risk management processes and maintenance of local risk registers
Service Improvement & Change
* Support and lead defined quality improvement, efficiency or medicines waste reduction projects
* Collect, analyse and present operational data to inform service improvement
* Contribute to business and workforce planning discussions within Pharmacy Operational Services
Technical & Professional Practice
* Participate in dispensary services, including dispensing and final accuracy checking in accordance with ACPT accreditation
* Supervise, train and mentor pharmacy technicians and assistants
* Respond to medicines‑related queries within professional scope
* Maintain GPhC registration and engage in continuous professional development
General Responsibilities
* Work in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards and Pharmacy SOPs
* Participate in weekend, bank holiday and extended‑hours rotas as required
* Maintain confidentiality, equality, diversity and safeguarding responsibilities at all times
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Registered Pharmacy Technician
* Experience of Working in Hospital Pharmacy
Desirable Criteria
* Leadership/Management qualification
* Project Management Experience or qualification

You must have appropriate UK professional registration. The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
