Role Summary

The post holder will be an experienced nurse, with expert knowledge and skills in the field of gynaecology. They will deliver direct patient care whilst managing, leading, co‑ordinating and overseeing nursing practice.

The post holder carries 24‑hour continuing responsibility for the co‑ordination and monitoring of all clinical activities within their designated clinical area. They will be expected to maintain high standards of care and be accountable for auditing those standards.

They are expected to ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of all resources required to deliver optimum quality care to their patient group.

They will provide advice and support to all staff and will be required to work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team in caring for patients using the service. They will liaise closely with colleagues in managing the provision of procedure (and other clinics), and staffing in the department. They will also be responsible for maintaining a suitable and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

The post holder will drive forward evidence‑based practice and take responsibility for the supervision and development of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.

They will lead initiatives to continuously improve quality and clinical care standards within the department.


Key Responsibilities

* Act as a role model and effective leader, participate in direct patient care, demonstrating expert knowledge and high standards of clinical practice.
* Be a point of contact by ensuring that they are visible, accessible and assertive figure to whom patients, relatives and staff can turn for assistance, advice and support.
* Manage clinic staffing day to day to ensure effective use of resources. This includes responsibility for the duty rotas, annual and study leave, bank and agency usage.
* Ensure that all staff within the outpatient area has an annual performance development review and have a personal development plan. Collate all staff PDRs in order to identify and plan educational needs for your area.
* Maintain the budget (pay and non‑pay) within the agreed budget. Report and investigate any deviation from this position (both deficits and surpluses). Assist to deliver savings and efficiencies in line with the Trust objectives.
* Collaborate with PALS/complaints service as appropriate and take a pro‑active approach to resolving issues and learning from feedback. Investigate and respond to informal and formal complaints in a timely manner encouraging an open and learning environment.
* Monitor all incidents that occur within the clinical area undertaking root cause analysis as required. To manage any changes in practice or learning identified through incident reviews.

Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
