We are looking for a Field Engineer (Infrastructure) to join the team on a permanent basis. Our Aerospace, Defence and Security (ADS) business designs, develops, and deploys digital solutions that bring clients enduring business value across the UK’s Public and Private sectors. Our rapidly growing Aerospace, Defence and Security business provides technology and data driven transformation services to clients and in support of wider Sopra Steria business.
The successful candidate will work with the Project Manager and report to the Team Lead. You will be one of a team of SMEs who will deploy the IT system and end devices. The deployment will be UK wide, and you will be expected to travel to site in accordance with the project delivery plan. You will also be expected to provide second/third line support, technical implementation: installation, maintenance, performance optimisation of infrastructure technologies.
Knowledge of SCIDA is essential.
The base location will be Hemel Hempstead, note that the role will involve extensive travel across the UK and may involve overnight stays of a week or more.
This role also requires DV clearance.
What you will be doing:
* Deploy hardware and software (for server, network, storage or desktop environments).
* Test all deliverables produced and document results.
* Integration and test of products (both hardware and software) for incorporation into the programme infrastructure.
* Administration and enhancement of the environment and its supportability.
* Provide second- and third-line support.
* Carry out tasks in accordance with the project plan (timelines, locations, deliverables, administration).
* Accurately assess time to complete tasks in order to follow standard project processes and procedures.
* To be aware of the relevant SLA structure and to respond, fix or elevate according to the limits set out within that structure.
* Maintain Operational and User procedures to ensure that Team Leader and project manager is informed of progress.
* Complete and update documentation, records and/or databases.
* Correctly manage the assets under their control or that they are responsible for deploying.
* Identifying, triaging and reporting faults.
What you will bring:
* Knowledge of relevant process and procedures for compliance of UK Government communication installation standards (e.g. JSP’s / SCIDA / CIDA / TEMPEST).
* You will have good working knowledge of their technology area.
* Good working knowledge and experience of associated infrastructure engineering tools, techniques and methods within their specialist area.
* Demonstrable experience of working as an Infrastructure/Field Engineer on small or medium sized IT projects.
* Infrastructure skills covering administration, deploying hardware (core services and end point) fault finding/diagnosis and fix.
* Experience working in a customer support environment.
* Documentation skills, with the ability to produce documents for use by an end user, as well as operational procedure documentation.
* Extensive work experience in infrastructure Management.
It would be great if you had:
* Experience with File/Print Clusters an advantage, enterprise level thin client environments an advantage, messaging systems an advantage, working to tight SLA’s
* Experience with controls around installing equipment in a secure datacenter.
