Governor Services Officer
Grade: 2C - £24,390 - £26,117
Working Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, Term time only plus 10 days
Contract Type: Permanent - starting as soon as possible
This is an exciting opportunity to join our governor services team. Successful candidates will have excellent communication, personal and organisational skills, be able to work independently in a paperless environment and organise their own time whilst working to strict deadlines. You will undertake professional clerking support to a group of school governing boards (GBs) in Salford.
We are a successful and trusted self-financing council service and support school governors at their meetings in schools across the city, we provide advice, guidance and training for maintained schools and academy trust local governing boards. Our aim is to support them to be as effective as possible carrying out the three core functions of governance:
1. ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school;
2. holding headteachers and leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
3. overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
This is a rewarding and challenging role that will give you the opportunity to support governors across a range of schools to deliver the best outcomes for their pupils. Experience of working in a school governance environment with an understanding of high-quality professional clerking is preferred but not essential. You will be confident, professional with high level organisational skills and embody the city council’s values in everything you do. You will have the ability to develop good working relationships with governors, professional educators and your colleagues across the council, based on trust and mutual respect. You will provide administrative and organisational support, guidance to ensure that the board works in compliance with the appropriate legal and regulatory framework and advise on procedural matters relating to the operation of the board.
A flexible approach to working hours is essential as the role involves evening meetings which are clustered during term time.
