Tesco Shift Leader - East Wittering Express
Job location: East Wittering Express store.
Pay: £14.76 per hour, increasing to £15.97 inside M25; additional payments may apply.
Minimum of 16 guaranteed hours weekly, can be 12 hours.
Availability windows:
* Monday 05:30 – 14:30
* Thursday 05:30 – 14:30
* Friday 14:00 – 23:00
* Saturday 14:00 – 23:00
About the role:
Customers are at the heart of everything we do. Shift Leader is responsible for coordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss‑free shopping experience, support colleagues, open/close the store, manage safety, and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
Responsibilities:
* Work in fast‑paced retail environment with variety of bags.
* Take ownership of shifts, coordinate the team for a well‑stocked store.
* Listen to customers and ensure customer satisfaction.
* Look for ways to improve service, coach colleagues, give feedback.
* Ensure store is safe and shop safe.
* Maintain performance understanding and support managers.
* Lead from front and set example.
* Coach and support colleagues with daily priorities and breaks.
* Handle opening/closing duties, duty cover, ensure safety decisions.
* Act as go‑to for day‑to‑day queries when manager absent.
* Keep team up to date with communications and changes.
* Follow health and safety routines, ensure colleagues do same.
* Recognise and celebrate colleagues for good service.
Qualifications & Experience:
* 18 years or over, capable of working early mornings or late evenings if needed.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Strong relationship building with colleagues.
* Clear communication and multi‑channel messaging.
* Comfortable taking lead & overseeing store in manager’s absence.
* Good decision making and flexibility in change.
* Motivational ability to inspire team.
* Curious and look for service improvement ideas.
