Overview:
We're looking for a driven and experienced Senior Client Accountant to join a dynamic finance team supporting a diverse property portfolio. This role is crucial in managing financial reporting and accounting functions, ensuring services are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in line with client expectations and contractual commitments.
The ideal candidate will bring technical accounting expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.There is also an expectation to be office based at the Birmingham office during your probation period and then you can utilise the hybrid working approach.
Senior Client Accountant Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Development
Act as a mentor to junior team members, sharing knowledge and offering day-to-day support.
Contribute to a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
Support professional development across the team, ensuring technical and service delivery standards are consistently met.
Operational Excellence
Take ownership of accounting processes related to property portfolios, including service charge management, reconciliations, income and expenditure, VAT reporting, and capex/opex tracking.
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure alignment with both regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and greater efficiency.
Client Relationship Management
Serve as a key point of contact for clients, surveyors, and internal stakeholders on all financial matters.
Translate client needs into clear financial deliverables, ensuring all outputs meet agreed quality standards.
Participate in client meetings, offering insights, updates, and solutions to queries or concerns.
Controls & Compliance
Assist in developing robust financial controls and frameworks to manage risk and ensure compliance with contractual obligations and service-level agreements.
Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor queries.
Collaborate with compliance and internal audit teams to uphold control standards.
Systems & Reporting
Use accounting software and property management systems to generate accurate and timely reports.
Keep data sources current and ensure integration between finance and property systems.
Contribute to the rollout and optimisation of new system features to enhance reporting capabilities.
Commercial & Strategic Input
Monitor financial performance, ensuring activities are delivered within budget and aligned with strategic objectives.
Support business development by maintaining strong relationships with existing clients and contributing to service innovation.
Engage in wider projects across the finance function that support growth, compliance, or transformation.
What We're Looking For:
Strong accounting background, ideally with property or asset management experience.
Professionally qualified or part-qualified (e.g., ACCA, CIMA), or with equivalent experience.
Skilled in bookkeeping, financial reporting, and controls.
Familiarity with property accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, Qube, Trace Tramps) is highly advantageous.
Excellent attention to detail, with strong analytical and communication skills.
Comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Confident engaging with clients and colleagues at all levels.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
