We have a fantastic opportunity to recruit 2 people in Community Services, within the Neighbourhoods Directorate. The post will be based in our teams that support the Local Area Committees (LACs) in Sheffield
If you are passionate about making a difference to people’s lives and communities, this could be the role for you.
The role
Working in a small fast paced team your role is to work with communities to co-ordinate and help deliver local activities and projects based on what people have told us matters most to them. We work closely with community partners and service providers to address local issues and support communities to grow and develop.
The role involves active support for local Councillors, liaison with the voluntary sector and partners, project delivery and promotion of the LAC through a variety of communications channels.
Whilst successful candidates may be asked to work throughout the city, two LAC teams (South and North East) have central government Pride in Place funding and require additional capacity to hear local people’s views and support the development of local projects.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for people who are committed and passionate about the community and delivering the best to Sheffielders. We want people to join the team, who have a positive attitude and an understanding of our diverse communities. You will have excellent communication skills and are a people person with the ability to build relationships and be able to work with others in partnership to gain the best solutions and outcomes. You will be able to use your skills and abilities to successfully deliver projects and initiatives. You will also have all the relevant skills, abilities and experience as described in the person specification.
What are Local Area Committees (LACs)?
There are 7 Local Area Committees across the city. The committee consists of the 12 elected members for the 4 electoral wards within the area, this includes a Chair and Deputy Chair. Each committee is supported by a small team of officers. Local Area Committees (LACs) are a way for people to make a difference in their area and communities. The LACs are an opportunity for people to get involved, say what is great about their area, what improvements they would like to see and what matters to them and their community. LACs work together with partners and stakeholders to link services and operate effectively in line with the needs of the community.
