The Role
Our award‑winning Mission Systems Division delivers some of the world’s most advanced aviation IT systems from our office in Lincoln. As a result of our continued success and business expansion, we are delighted to offer a Systems Engineering (Triage) opportunity to support the development and delivery of our bespoke IT products. As a Systems Engineer (Triage), you will assess issues identified within the GECO product, collaboratively propose solutions, enable task prioritisation, and improve the efficiency of the product development cycle. You will also support customer‑facing staff in understanding the impact of issues on end users and assist the Test Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
* Investigate complex system behaviours across software, interfaces, and data flows.
* Conduct exploratory testing, review error logs, and trace system behaviour and execution paths to understand root causes.
* Assess and report the severity, impact, and urgency of issues.
* Maintain detailed records in the issue tracking tool and knowledge base.
* Contribute to the design and implementation of fixes, updates and new product features.
* Advise on test procedures and requirement updates to improve regression test coverage and prevent recurrence.
* Assist Mission Systems staff in understanding the product systems.
* Undertake related project activities.
Specific Responsibilities
* Contribute directly to systems engineering aspects of Company‑designed electronic mapping, mission support and electronic flight bag products.
* Support continuous improvement of Mission Systems products, tests and test management processes.
* Support product development through incident management, fault diagnosis, escalation, design, prototyping, process improvement and documentation.
* Provide test evidence and related documentation in support of product development, releases and project deliveries.Ensure the quality of test evidence is maintained at a high level and a standardised approach is used.
* Support the Test Engineering Manager with their responsibilities.
* Support Mission Systems’ goals and activities.
Role is based in the Company Offices in Lincoln; remote working is available where tasking allows.
Essential Skills and Experience
* A methodical approach to work.
* An understanding of requirements, architecture and verification concepts for software and systems.
* Proven experience of system, hardware and/or software testing, ideally within a regulated domain (e.g., aerospace).
* Working knowledge of the principles of exploratory testing.
* Understanding of the principles of configuration control.
* Expert user of a DevOps platform (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jira).
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Experience of developing traceable requirements and design.
* Experience of developing tests to satisfy stated requirements.
* Experience using requirements, verification and configuration management tools (e.g. IBM Rational DOORS, Azure DevOps).
* Knowledge of the principles of the development of safety‑related systems (RTCA/DO‑178C, DO‑200A, DO‑254, IEC61508).
* Proficient in software development for engineering applications using .NET, C or C++.
* Strong understanding of the aviation environments our products are used in.
* Working knowledge of modern operating systems.
* Working knowledge of on‑aircraft integration.
