The Safeguarding Practitioner is an experienced specialist practitioner with in-depth knowledge of adults at risk and child protection and advanced analytical skills for safeguarding acquired through specialist courses and experiential learning from interagency work.
Main duties of the job
The adult and children’s safeguarding teams are based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital but have responsibility for working with acute and community services provided, which will therefore require travel trustwide.
This post will work within the integrated safeguarding team in order to provide:
1. expert advice and support for colleagues in relation to safeguarding adults and child protection concerns
2. safeguarding adults and child protection training for all colleagues
3. safeguarding adults and child protection supervision for colleagues
4. effective communication channels with the Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Adults and Children's boards
5. robust internal policies and guidelines for safeguarding adults and child protection.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
15. NMC Registered Nurse/Registered Nurse /RMN/RNLD, Registered Social worker or Registered HCPC AHP.
16. Degree related to professional role or extensive relevant experience and willingness to undertake further education
17. Experience of delivering training.
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
18. Experience of working in a clinical area in community or acute as a Band 6 or 7 with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in that grade.
19. Knowledge of local and national guidance and research in relation to Safeguarding Adults and children
20. Knowledge of legal framework and of political and policy changes affecting Safeguarding Adults and children
21. Knowledge of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Mental Capacity Act, Liberty of Protection Safeguards and associated health and social care legislation.
22. Knowledge of data protection and NHS code of confidentiality.
23. Experience of working with safeguarding policies and procedures.
24. Experience with close liaison with multi–disciplinary teams and multiagency staff.
25. Awareness and understanding of the wider health and safety, clinical risk, and quality issues. Awareness and understanding of equality and diversity.
26. Evidence of managing clinical incidents and /or complaints.
27. Clear Safeguarding experience, with a highly developed specialist knowledge of the subject area.

29. Experience of safeguarding supervision as supervisor
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

30. Excellent interpersonal skills to enable effective working with all groups and all levels of staff, other agencies and public.
31. Ability to self-manage workload and ensure it is prioritised appropriately
32. Experience in producing clear and concise reports to convey information fully and accurately to enable effective multidisciplinary and multi-agency working for the purpose of safeguarding children and/or adults at risk
33. Ability to initiate and conduct audits and develop action plans for the purpose of monitoring and improving safeguarding practices within the Trust.
34. IT Literacy skills sufficient to produce reports, conduct research and communicate via e-mail
35. Ability to facilitate learning in others using a variety of methods
36. Ability to analyse issues / problems and devise and implement appropriate plan of action
37. Able to question and analyse information and to make sound judgements often under pressure in difficult circumstances
38. Ability to work under pressure and deal with confrontation
