Senior Clinical Social Worker

You will work in partnership with service users and carers and with a wide range of stakeholders within and outside the Trust. You will need to demonstrate the principles of dignity and respect focusing on working collaboratively with service users.

You will work alongside a range of professionals working with Children and Adolescents and will be expected to be able to develop positive working relationships, and an understanding of the roles of other agencies, and to take a lead role in this regard, particularly in relation to children and adolescents with social care needs. You may take a significant role in the service to Children Looked After and children known to social care.

You will work within a multi‑disciplinary team and therefore need to develop close working relationships.

This post sits within HPFT Specialist Division.


Main duties of the job

* Provide social work input within Forest House and to the countywide teams offering high risk support (Home Treatment Team, Eating Disorders Team and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Team).
* Ensure a close integration of the work of the unit and tier 4 and other work being done with Children Services.
* Achieve and maintain good working relationships with colleagues in other teams and disciplines and agencies, especially regarding areas of joint working.
* Play a role in the development and management of the Unit, having regard to managing one's own caseload and the establishment of priorities, providing safeguarding supervision, support and consultation to staff and assistance for colleagues where required.
* Ensure that work being undertaken by Social Work Staff displays a professional approach and is in line with statutory duties and departmental policy.

Job responsibilities

* Attend multi-disciplinary team meetings to assist in the overall running of the Unit.
* Provide professional safeguarding supervision to colleagues in the unit.
* Ensure high standards of clinical practice and multidisciplinary working within the Social Work Team and that policies and procedures are followed and registration requirements are upheld.
* Organise regular liaison meetings and encourage effective communication between the unit and Children Services.
* Co‑work with other members/disciplines of the multi‑disciplinary team as and when necessary.
* Consult and liaise with other related professionals in Children Services, Health, and the voluntary sector, as appropriate, on matters of mutual concern regarding CYPMHS clients in general, and Children Looked After in particular to promote effective service provision.
* Provide social work specific assessment and treatment for children, adolescents and their families in conjunction with other members of the team where appropriate.
* Provide specialist treatment for children, adolescents and their families depending on skills and qualifications.
* Offer support and consultation to individual professionals or groups of professionals in other helping agencies and give occasional talks and lectures to various organisations to promote community understanding of child mental health problems and the work of the Child & Young Peoples Mental Health Service.
* Contribute to ongoing service evaluation and audit within CYPMHS.
* Maintain a high standard of clinical records in line with the Trust and CYPMHS policies and procedures.
* Complete data collection returns of activity and clinical effectiveness in line with policies and procedures in CYPMHS, and participate in CYPMHS audit and outcome projects as required.
* Participate in regular supervision of a type and frequency agreed in the Individual Annual Appraisal.
* Follow evidence‑based practice.
* Participate in continuing professional development.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Education to relevant professional qualification e.g. BA SW; MA SW; Dip SW; CQSW; CSS; Master's; PQ/AA Level.
* Membership of professional body – Social Work England.
* Further training/qualification in relevant area of practice. E.g. Family Therapy, Child Psychotherapy, Group Therapy, Counselling, Play Therapy, CBT.


Skills

* Knowledge of child protection procedures with evidence of ongoing child protection training.
* Knowledge of current legislation and guidance relevant to Children Looked After.
* Ability to demonstrate high level of competence in the practice of child and family social work.
* Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
* Knowledge of psychotherapeutic approaches/methods.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£51,657 to £58,785 a year per annum, pro rata (inclusive of 5% HCAS).
