The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors as they’re responsible for 24% of UK GHG emissions. We need a fixed‑term (up to 2 years) Energy Advisor with experience of regulating combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. You will work with internal teams and external stakeholders such as DEFRA, DESNZ and trade associations.
Key responsibilities include:
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
* Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Engage with internal and external stakeholders (internal operations, trade associations, partner regulators, government bodies).
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during an incident.
Experience & Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and encourage consideration of diversity issues.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge of combustion, incineration or refineries, including control measures for air emissions.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government agencies, trade bodies and academia.
* Cooperatively work as part of a team to achieve common goals.

This vacancy closes at the end of October. Interviews are expected to be held in person in Birmingham by the end of November. Some travel will be required and you may be recruited onto a reserve list for 6 months if you consent.
